Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox as a Tivo?

What is preventing Microsoft from making the programming to use the 360 as a video recording device?  I think that this could be a huge bonus if microsoft could add that feature into x-box live.  I believe there is some kind of cable card that would need to be used in conjunction with the 360, but I'm sure there must be a way to integrate via a USB port.

Yeah it's possible, http://www.cnet.com.au/sony-playtv-ps3-339299333.htm

The PS3 has Play TV, a little add on box that you can use to watch one show while recording another or use the PS3 to game/watch a movie etc while you record. Why doesn't Microsoft have one? You'd have to ask them that.

I am using my 360 as a recorder. Through windows media center. :)

probably because a ms version would be as popular as the sony version...  i.e. not popular at all.

MS would actually advertise the thing though. Sony never advertised PlayTV.

I thought playTV sold 3.4 mil?.. I have seen atleast 30 people in my list use it..

Because it would have been a waste of money to advertise it in the main market it was aimes at.. the UK.  As you know the UK is dominated by Sky+ and Virgin... plus set top PVR's cost buttons.

The future of TV recorders is limited in any event.  Catch up services, iplayer, skyplayer, 4OD etc will make them less and less relevant as time passes.
