but we are all for-profit organizations, so to release too much of this information to non-subscribers would be counter-productive.

Lame.  Why is it then a partner like Enterbrain can "afford" to deliver a weekly top thirty with numbers, a mammoth top 500 at the end of every year and even periodic random ltd updates when relevant (by platform, by category, by series, etc)?   NPD's lack of transparency is inexcusable by comparison, especially when they're holding a monopoly for coverage of the self-described "most important market".  NeoGAF never should've caved to that devil's bargain, especially since NPDs never upheld their promised end anyway (the original deal was a top 20 and top tens per platform, complete with numbers).

Enterbrain weekly numbers are leaks, not officially released numbers and NPD does release top yearly sellers as well every year.

Are you saying that Famitsu numbers are leaks??

No, we get early leaks, but Enterbrain/Famitsu does release the official top 30 for every week themselves.  And their annual lists are top 500, which is lightyears different from NPD's top 10.

Amazing, this man made room from his busy schedule of making new accounts on random sites just to bash vgchartz, what a trooper.

Wal-Mart tracked, confirmed!

That's not what he said. He said Wal-mart estimates were included in their data. Wal-mart numbers aren't tracked, they are estimated, and keeping that estimate accurate is a tricky business that requires constant monitoring and refinement.

I think the interview was poorly done. They asked too many questions which were obviously questions he could not answer.

Never thought this day would come, I agree with a Squilliam post.. !

He should've pressed on several questions...

I thought it was funny that he was unwilling to explain their methodology.

If they can't share that, then why believe them?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
