Forums - Sony Discussion - Uncharted 2 ? Over hyped ?

Demon's Souls is my goty.

Uncharted 2 was not overhyped, it is the best shooter/action/adventure single player game this year. Has amazing graphics, story and voice acting and on top of that a solid and enjoyable multiplayer.

Uncharted 2 wasn't overhyped, I would say tho, UNcharted 1 is underapreciated, since uncharted 1 is almost as god as the sequel, it only didn't has older graphics and no multiplayer. The single player is just as good. And the best characters came from the first game, elena,drake and sully.

A tad bit over hyped I thought.  Definitely an improvement over the first one though...and I did play it 5 times in a row.

Graphics = Awesome

Gameplay = Fun

Story / Voice acting = Awesome

But at the end of the game, I didn't feel the sense of epicness that I felt after beating MGS4 or God of War II. In those games, I felt that I had gone on a long epic journey....while U2 felt...like an action movie....I don't know what I'm saying either but it wasn't "OMGWTFBBQ this game is one of the best games of all time !"

I agree with this. I loved Uncharted 1, but was somewhat underwhelmed by Uncharted 2! I still love the game though, and consider it as a truly amazing game and one of this year's best games without a doubt. It is also at least in my top 5 PS3 games. Uncharted 2 was non stop action, and when you finally thought you had some peace and quiet bad guys started coming or you slipped, started falling or something like that. The train level is also one of the most satisfying and intense levels ever created!

My GoTY 2009 is Demon's Souls!

However, I strongly disagree with your MGS4 opinion... That game was crap compared to it's predecessors in every way but graphics and gameplay mechanics (but that is a given). The story and environments in MGS4 made me hugely disappointed, and I felt I had been playing a really cheesy movie that did not have the special feeling of infiltration/loneliness (can't really find the right words) that made it's predecessors so amazing... Kojima, next time stick to ONE LOCATION and don't travel all around the world. IMO, MGS4 was a badly executed game. I might want to add that MGS3 is among my top 5 games of all time (maybe 1, but I don't really have A game that is my "favourite")

My GoTY 2008 is Valkyria Chronicles!

It's a slightly overhyped, kinda forgettable game that has amazing graphics, and overall, I'd give it a 9/10. You've got to remember, exclusives are gonna be overhyped, always, and any game that innovates as little as Uncharted 2 does, probably isn't going to be many people's "best game of all time" no matter how good it is.

That said, the game oozes quality in design, and technical expertise. It's the Avatar of videogames. It's a popcorn flick....but it's the ULTIMATE popcorn flick....still doesn't make it comparable to Godfather II, but remember, popcorn flicks are the most popular films, so you are going against the tide when you claim dissapointment. Most people want exactly what this game has to offer, and you, like myself, are probably in a niche of gamers who prefer games like Radiant Dawn and Valkyria Chronicles, to titles like Galaxy 2 and Uncharted 2.

I love playing those niche games too, but I must say I need a solid action game here and there and both the Uncharted's have delievered exactly what I asked for, the sequel improving the formula to make the game that much more enjoyable.

Are you seriously gonna waste your time arguing with this guy? If you look at his posts EVERYTHING Nintendo, actually more specifically EVERYTHING Miyamoto is the second coming of Christ and nothing else compares. Just don't waste your time, we all know the quality in ALL aspects Uncharted 2 offers and the improvements it made vs pt. 1. It's not Zelda, it's not Mario nor Metroid so don't bother arguing with him. On a side note, the multiplayer felt just right, although I do wish they changed the buttons between cover and rolling.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

For the most part, all decent console exclusives are over hyped as a rule.

Guys, this was strictly my opinion....you don't have to pull Metacritic user reviews to prove your point...
There were some awesome sequences...but when the game ended...I did not feel the same "That was epic !" feeling that I got after completing MGS4, GoW II and SotC....(only being gaming since the PS2 era)

Maybe I was disappointed that the game ended...lol

Remember, one review said "Forget GOTY, its one of the best games of all time"..

I wanted the game to go on as well, lol, but allas it had to end sooner or later, at least it was longer than the first uncharted, but did it feel easier to you, because Uncharted 2 did feel easier to me...

it's the future of handheld

You know, I never really noticed until now, but this was one of the biggest problems with MGS4.  In the other games, you'd spend so much time exploring a single huge environment.  The members of your team would flesh out the environment's nuances via codec.  By the end of the game, in MGS 1-3, you'd travel that location a couple times and it would be interesting to see the changes to the environment.  Hell, it was always kind of sad when the place you'd spent the whole game in would get abondoned or destroyed.  In MGS4, you were hopping around so much that you never really got attached to an environment (Shadow Moses was the highlight of that game, for me!).  It's strange because everything I've ever been taught about gaming tells me that multiple environments is a GOOD thing........

I pretty much agree with your entire post (from Off Topic on down).  Demon Souls wasn't even on my radar, but since you and I think so much alike (as far as gaming tastes), I may have to check it out!!

On reflection and now I have finished both... Uncharted1 is a better game than Uncharted2.... UC2 just looks better. Both great great games though.

How though? I loved both but didn't you think the 2nd was better cause it looked better, had more stealth options, more weapons, online, and amazing bits like the tank chase and the train sequence?

That is a big no, no !

Uncharted 2 craps all over Uncharted 1 in every single aspect.

I agree with BigBoobieHead (and not because I like boobies or head, either). Uncharted 2 had all of the things he listed plus great pacing and diversity among enemies. Aside from the driving and jet-ski sequences (which I enjoyed a lot in Drake's Fortune), U2 beat U1 in every way (in my opinion).

Well the online doesnt matter to me..... so forget that aspect.

Stealth? I suppose, not a big deal really though. Storywise, I liked Sully in 1 and that helped to make the story better for me. The rather cliched english semi-villain in UC2 was a bit pathetic to be honest. I jsut had a smile on my face much more in UC1. It all about personal opinions.

Does that have anything to do with you being British ?

Anywayz... FAIL.

He was Australian, like Chloe was.

Helicopter attack + The train sequence + Tank fight = Better than most action movies
