Forums - Microsoft - Two X360 questions...

And installing a game makes your system run quieter than a mouse's fart.

Another benefit of installs: I have a copy of Tomb Raider Underworld that is scratched all to shit. It would crash before I got to title screen. I rented TRU and installed it to the HDD. My scratched up copy works flawlessly, now.

If you can get somebody's damaged games, and you manage to install that same game (renting or borrowing or what have you), you've just gotten yourself a new game for a fraction of the cost. I have a friend who has a scratched up copy of Oblivion. If I rent it and install it and I convince him to give me his copy I could own that game for the price of a rental! I don't want Oblivion, though.

Neither do I :P

My friend DOES have scratched up 360 games. It's worth a try!

Yes and yes @ your questions.

Oh and buy Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect and Gears of War. NOW!!

1) Not every game can be installed. I know Dead or Alive XTreme Beachvolleyball and some early basketball games (?) and some other games can't be installed. But there are like 1 for every 100-200 xbox games.

2) Every system is a Jasper released in the last year or so including the RE4 Bundles. So you should be safe.

It's just that simple.

Yea, installing is the way to go. It cut load times, increases the game's performance, no more vacuum cleaner noise fromt eh X360, and like Squilliam said, they've made it less spacious, and more effective with an earlier patch.

MS screwed IBM on the die shrinking profits, and the rights to manufacture the CPU, I hear. Thus, no one is working on making the X360 45nm, to my knowledge. I don't believe there will be a model newer than the Jasper until AMD finishes its CPU/GPU combo chip.

That probably won't be in production until like... 2011? Maybe late 2011, even.

They have used Chartered for a while but since Global Foundries are also part of the same IBM fab alliance they could transfer to them relatively easy. I don't believe they have to wait until Fusion releases, CPU companies often tape out a year ahead of the release of a new model. The lessons which need to be learnt have most likely been learnt by now.

I kinda think MS is banking on Fusion being their next major X360 design.  I think they wouldn't bother to spend the money to upgrade to independant 45nm chips and supplies, if they haven't by now (which they haven't).

I doubt we will see another hardware revision of the X360 until the Fusion/Valhalla, for that reason, and I sincerely doubt that's going to be this year.  MS has already reached a relatively stable hardware revenue -- another reason I don't think they are all gung ho to make a short run of 45nm models before the hybrid.
