I guess the difference is that we now have more viable reasons for them to release updated hardware between advances in TV technology to 3D and new controllers as well as the general aging of the console 'fleet', so to speak. |
So, what you're saying is that I have vision.
All of these things were easily visible from back then. 3D gaming and tracking demos were available, MS was already talking about 'forward compatibility', hardware revisions, etc etc.
But anyway, I think you had much better presentation in your post, which may be what really distinguishes our two threads lol
^yeah
@squill
I see your point now, you do have a leg up on my argument and that is you have an extra reason for an intermediate console.
My previous argument for an intermediate console is that it would be capable of running games without load times, have better framerate, etc etc, and provide a strong starting base for whenever companies decided to start the next gen. They would already have so many millions already owning the intermediate to be the base.
Your argument adds the Natal etc into the mix. In my thread everyone was asking "what's the point"? You have a fatter point. But, if something like this were to occur, there would be plenty of people out there who would praise the system for no load times and amazing framerates. So, through that I would feel vindicated. XD

Yep. But IMO one must approach creating a thread like this from the perspective of writing a short article. Pretty pictures and a couple of rewrites are the order of the day.
Corporate strategy is hard, especially when you try to figure it from the outside.
Edit: But the big question of vindication is really still up in the air. The cards which I see falling in a certain way can still fall in other ways, as like they said in Terminator: "The futures not set"
Tease.
What's good is, Natal is an add-on. They could easily put out a new console and just keep the same inputs for the Natal system, so Natal can work with both a 360 and a "720", therefore, they wouldn't really be giving anyone the cold shoulder.

I'm amazed at all this Natal hype... I could understand that if it was something revolutionary... But seriously, here it's just a slightly improved Eyetoy trying to surf on the Wii success. MS once again invented nothing.
I said it earlier and I'll say it again, the probability of Natal success is close to zero since :
- casual gamers already have the Wii
- the Wii success itself is already fading a bit (slowly but you can see it in sales variation year over year)
- MS has no major casual game or franchise on 360
- the 360 is deeply linked to a very specific population : hardcore shooter fans. Mostly American teens. This crowd doesn't mix at all with casual gamers. This crowd doesn't want at all waving their arms, they want to continue to play like they do now, but on better games.
Therefore :
- hardcore gamers won't buy Natal for the same reason they didn't buy Eyetoy, they don't care.
- casual gamers won't buy either, they have their Wii and they don't like the 360 at all.

Well thought out and constructive post... No hold a second no its a load of codswallop. Why is it coming to late? If everyone who wants casual already have one who is buying the Wii now? And no MS do not have Nintendo's back catalogue they will have their own.

I think you made a mistake in wording it quite that way -- "Nintendo's back catalogue" is something that MS can never have anything comparable to.
