USB 3.0 is a 2 way thing correct? Like... I'd need USB 3.0 slots on my motherboard of course, but I'd also need a brand new USB 3.0 External harddrive - right?

USB 3.0 is already out. You can buy the somewhat expensive add-in cards, remember those for USB 1.0 and 2.0? You can also buy USB 3.0 devices like external HDDs.
