I bought the PS2 back in march 2003, it was the very 1 console I bought my self, at the time I was tossing up weather I'd buy a PS2 or an xbox, but what sealed the deal was when I went over to a friends house and saw DMC 1, it blew me away with how awesome it was and that pretty much sealed the deal and so I bought my self a PS2.
I have never regretted it, it just had so much awesome games.
The Xbox 360, Xbl and friends made me buy it.

N64. My cousin got one, and i was rather entranced by the bright colors and imaginitive worlds of Mario 64 and Kart 64. I was 10 at the time, but i figure i'm still wowed by colorful worlds by age 20, it makes no difference. I had been exposed to video games before, but being male, most of my male friends were playing "core" games, so it took my female cousin and her willingness to play colorful games that got me interested.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
The Pong machine was a gift, Intellivision I chose it, I thought I could like its games and I liked its very complete gamepads, they allowed easy control of complex games and the directional disk gave a finer control than copetitors, 16 directions compared to the usual 8 (although bigger fire buttons and a stick instead of the disk could have made them better).
the first console i played was a atari 2600 that my dad bought in 79. the first one i bought was the nes. i couldnt believe the graphics and the game play of that system.
