Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox 360 vs. PlayStation 3 vs. Wii

"The Xbox 360 is best for: gamers who take online gameplay seriously"   So PS3 owners don't take online gaming seriously? Are you serious?  Live offers one feature that PSN doesn't offer (yet) and that is cross game chat.  Most of PS exclusives are on a dedicated server which provides a much more solid and smooth experience than can be possible on a P2P system, which is what Live uses for nearly everything.  I fail to understand how Live is for serious gamers but all other networks are for people who are not serious about online gaming.

Your bias ruins all of your statements, even the ones that are correct.

This is really tilted in favor of the HD Twins.

The Xbox 360 has an "easy to use interface"? Everyone I know - long-time gamer or no - finds it confusing as hell. Also, anyone who wants an "all-in-one gaming and entertainment system" would be better served getting a PC, since that way you won't be nickle-and-dimed to hell and back by MS. Ditto with the "do-it-yourselfers and videophiles" mentioned in the PS3 section.

And what exactly do the HD consoles offer the Expanded Market (or "casual gamers" as the article calls them) that the Wii doesn't? The odd half-hearted PopCap port? Last I checked, both HD consoles' libraries are extremely core market-oriented.

As for the Wii: "Those who prefer a wide selection of adult-targeted titles?" More adults have bought Wii Fit than any three games on either of the HD consoles combined. When will game journalists get over the fact that the majority of adults don't want to play games with convoluted controls, swearing, and polygonal tits?

Just more awful crap from "gaming journalists." Nothing to see here.

To be fair, the 360's GUI is more "idiot" friendly than the PS3 menu(better for people who know wtf they are doing) so the article is not exactly wrong.

Calling a game causal is not an insult, since I enjoy all gaming, people who mean or see it as an insult are prolly racists, just saying.

95% of game journalists are fucked in the head, don't take it too seriously =).

So someone is stupid if they like things to be easy to use (i.e. an idiot)? And if you're smart you like things convoluted and counter-intuitive? I find your comment here exteremely insulting.

what happened to the wii_title games?

I can say the same thing about Mac OSX /shrug besides, idiot friendly doesn't mean the people using it are idiots, don't know why you'd be insulted.

Well said. Just because people pay for something does not make it better.

Also you can't have things like BBC iPlayer because the Live subscription goes against the BBC being a free service.

I own all three consoles, and I find NXE to be much worse than XMB or Wii Channels.  The Wii Channel interface is a good example of a good simple interface designed for children and inexperienced users.  All the complex functionality is available, but designed in a way that it would be difficult for a Child to easily manipulate it.  The user accessible stuff however is easy to find and with large icons.  I would consider the Wii layout to be on a similar mission as Mac OSX and generally successful in exposing the limited functionality provided by the console.

I also like XMB, because it is logically arranged in columns, has a generally pleasing and consistently designed layout.  I would consider to be a good power user interface, similar to a Gnome setup on a Linux System.

I have always found NXE to be needlessly garish and cluttered.  At first glance it looks easier to use than XMB due to the large icons and such, but the way is arranged is totally illogical.  Need to change the theme, no it's not under My Xbox, as you expect.  You have to Click on your Profile and change it there.  Need to create a new Gamer Profile, sure do it under My Xbox as expected.  Need to delete one you don't want, sorry, you have to go to storage settings.  Need to pair a controller, sorry, can’t do it in a menu, need to press the little button on the console instead.  Why, why, why?
