Technically, its 1 year and 2 days till this decade is over. Just like how the new Millenniums don't start until the 001 year (1001, 2001, 3001). This decade actually goes from beginning of 2001 to end of 2010.  Time begins on year 1, not year 0.

He never 'expected' you to remember.

Pfoew... 9/11 of course and more importantly, the start (and later laughed about) east versus west wars.

The credit-crisis.

Great advances in communication between people (the internet started in the 90's but true iCt with a capitol C started this decade with networking sites, twitter, flicker, etc.)

And about movies, don't forget that this decade saw the release of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the start of Harry Potter, Pixar truelly emerging (Wall-E, Up, Incredibles etc.). And more undoubtedly but I'm too lazy to look it up.
