I am planning on buying a PS3 Slim and selling my 80gb fat model to a friend but I don't know how to transfer the saved data from the old PS3 to the new one. Has anyone done the same thing and if so please help me? Thank you.

I had the same question I was wondering about.
Additionally, what is the best way to wipe your hard drive?
take an external hardrive (flash drive) and go to backup utility on the settings on the ps3 and then it wil be put on ur flash drive, then you do the same thing but you restore instead of back up...its the best way to copy and paste all ur stuff hope i helped

Appat from removing everything 1 by 1.
Take it out of the PS3, put it on ur PC, format it in FAT 32 or NTFS, put it back in the PS3 and it will reformat it for you, completely empty drive.
Edit : Actually, I think there's an option to format the hard drive in the XMB. Which makes it a lot simpler.
Your in luck friend as Sony Just included that in a recent update, You take PS3 A and PS3 B hook them together using a Ethernet cable go into settings and it will tell you what to do from their
Well, as AIJensen said, that's the best way to pass your HDD contents from one PS3 to another one.
I can help you with the formatting though, there's a software way to do it on your PS3, here's how:
First you'll have to have your PS3 lit up, then hold the power button until it shuts down. Next press the power button and keep it pressed until you hear three simultanious beeps and let go of the power button.
Your PS3 should open an BIOS OS menu in which you'll have many options, being one of them an option to do an Hard Format to your HDD.
