Still, it sounds like a surge.

Get surge protectors people.

oh, and if you do and you have to call Sony, tell them you plug straight into the wall. A lot of companies void the warranty if you tell them you plugged it into a surge protector (or other device between the item and the wall). Companies like to be jerks, so don't tell them and you won't run into any problems.

wow, what bastards?

If that really bricked them, it wouldn't be there.

Unless the light is red, you DO NOT turn it off from the back. You hold the button for a 20 seconds if you have to.

I like the power surge idea. Makes the most sense.

Yeah I know, just a little bit of sarcasm from my side :3
But I don't really think that switch is dangerous at all, I mean.. I turned off my PS2 EVERYTIME from that switch..
Oh, and I played like everyday, or at least 3-5 days a week on it for like 5-6 years, and it's still working fine :)

This happened to me with MW2.What i did was to organize all of my music, photos and videos in folders and delete any demo i had.Give it a try,it might just work

Oh,and turning off your ps3 with the switch from the back wont do any damage to it.Think about it,why would sony make something to damage itself?they wouldnt

haha same i use to turn it off through the back on the PS2 all the time.

When i first got my PS3 i did the same thing until it got bricked, everything was black and i tried every solution, in the end had to ring up Sony

the thing was i only had my PS3 for like a few weeks and didn't do it as much as i did on the PS2.

Well, I did it only once as I said on the PS3, and that was when everything froze.. only happened once, a long time ago, so I had to turn it off from the switch.. but I found it simple to turn the PS3 off from the controller, and that way I don't have to actually walk to my PS3 either (I'm lazy yeah)

But it seems wierd why it's dangerous to turn it off from behind.. is it because PS3 is homophobic? or because it's a failure with the PS3? Either way, Sony has probably fixed this with the PS3 Slim :)
