Forums - Sony Discussion - The PSP Go was a MAJOR flop. We need to talk about it.

It was not just the price tag, but it was a factor.

1) Freakin small buttons, my thumbs hit several buttons at once.

2) No touch screen, why bother

3) No UMD, or micro UMD (Blu-Ray UMD = more space, and would make up for the price, no need for endless firmware updates)

4) Have to buy ALL NEW accessories

5) Still No Flash Support

6) Price

It failed by the expectations of dudes on the internet. I wouldn't be surprised if SONY expected this at 250$.

I'd also like to add that this PSPGo feature wise is EXACTLY what people have been asking for.

4 ≈ One

if they had the balls to start at 250 USD and not sell games cheaper online, they should have been prepared to suffer the consequences. that should sum it up.

at least sony makes a lot of money from every PSP Go

Going all digital is fine, it's worked with the iPhone so far. Sony needs a PSP Phone. Whats the point of being download only, if I can't download from anywhere? Needing a Wifi connection to download is limiting

Compare the PSPGo to the iPhone, and the difference is clear. For $199 you get an MP3 player, movie player, 100,000 apps, Phone, Videogame Player, GPS device, touchscreen, etc.

The PSPGo cost $249, you get an mp3, video player, and you get to play games. But first you have to convert the video into something ridiculous.

They need to leverage the PSN the way Apple has leveraged iTunes. I mean, Sony owns music and movie studios!! Combine that with the excellent first party games, and I'm not sure why their not raking in the cash. Oh yeah...they make stupid pricing points and confining propriatory connections.

Seriously, Sony's proprietory plugins and sd-cards need to END! I've avoided a lot of their cameras due to the proprietary stuff. Geez, what are these guys thinking?

Quoted for truth. I agree especially with you on the proprietory plugins, and sd-cards...it's ridiculous. I've never thought of comparing the PSP Go to an iPhone, but thats a good point for the features aspect of the argument.

Why's people always comparing the PSP Go with an iPhone? Its PSP Go vs Ipod Touch and relatively speaking are more at the same level.

Price wise you just have to shop around people.  Dell had the PSP Go at $199 for the holidays, and some big stores like Bestbuy would price match that and deduct another %10 off the savings.  Not a bad deal.  Sure its still a little pricier but with a built in HDD $199 beats those bundle PSP ....but as well its all peoples preferences.

Like I always assumed from the beginning. The first revision "PSP Slim" (PSP-2000) was the true and only revision that was needed. The PSP Go was more targeted for new owners rather than existing. More like a beta to see if the market would generate hype and some share.

I truly think sales wasn't the main target but feedback from the hardcore crowd was. So that if they were to make another revision or successor, they know what to incorporate.

not HDD, it's Flash, all you'd have to do, is get a Mem Stick converter for like 4-8 bucks, drop a 8 or 16 gig micro SD in it, put it into the PSP 3k, format, and it would act the same as a PSP Go, with an UMD drive, and a bigger screen while still being cheaper! cha chin!

They do? Didn't know that. That's good news.

I’m certain some people will disagree with me but I thought that the PSPGo seemed like Sony was pushing a business model rather than listening to what consumers wanted. Downloadable content is great, and people are highly interested in it at the moment, but most of the interest in it is in (very) low cost games/applications ($1.99) where it is difficult to make a profit; and Sony's download-only system with $20+ games is beyond what most people are willing to spend.
