If it sold like wii, then two thing shappen 1) it keeps high price longer. 2) the cost to manufacture drops much, much quicker, so the profit per unit would go up quicker. They would not be losing so much money on each console.

If sony sells 15M in year 1, they are profitable per unit right away. instead they ground out 15M ins ales over a long time thus slowly, oh so slowy, dropping the production costs down...

They would rather be losing money at #1 then losing money at #3!

As some stated, if it had sold more, they wouldn't have cut the price for some time, so whichever way you look at it, Sony wouldn't have gone broke.

Price is partially dictated by sales... It's not like they don't calculate all that before deciding the price.

Once again, don't worry for Sony, they're doing fine. Look, they have survived 1000s of fanboy doom threads and they just sold 1 million PS3s in one week, so it looks it's now time to party for them.

If memory serves me right, invertedlotus is pretty supportive of Sony.
