Yes, fanatical belief is not limited to religion. Many people are very fanatical in a handful of beliefs. It's just unfortunate when they tend to cross paths like consoles. Then it comes to Console Religious wars :P

The Wii and DS are my life. I would take a bullet for Nintendo.

You're a fanatic - why should you do that?! It only makes sense for Sony :)

i keep asking myself what it is that makes people defend their choices in extreme ways.

obviously people need to confirm that they made the "right" choice. but it also seem to require to assure themselves everything else is the "wrong" choice for whatever reason.

and it is not enough to be happy with your choice. Everyone else who choose something else needs to feel unhappy about it!

only then true happiness is achieved! ...for a while

i will file this under Human behavior

...i'm not excluding myself from this kind of behavior, i just try to be aware of it and keep it under control best as i can.

...i say "choices" because this is not only about consoles, but it can be about anything in ones life.

...these are not facts, but my opinions.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Fandamentalist.

Clever, but not particularly accurate. Fanboys are more like extremists than fundamentalists.

Actually its my belief that:

PS3 fanboys are truely PS3 supremacists because all they want is for the PS3 to dominate something.

Wii fanboys are truely Wii fanatics because they worship a whole range of dieties from Miyamoto to Malstrom.

Xbox 360 fanboys are truely fundamentalists because its their way or the highway oh and they thing they own the highway too.

That's hilariously clever.

Agnostics question everything.  We'll be watching you closely now, Mr. Xoj . . .

If you spend a lot of time with something it is normal to expect that kind of behaviour from people.

I tried to search this forum for a link to this article on here, but didn't find it referenced in a forum:

http://www.destructoid.com/fanboyism-should-be-called-religous-fandamentalism-158334.phtml

This article compares fanboys to religions fundamentalism, and suggests calling fanboys fandamentalists.  Commonalities the article sees between the two:

They pass off mere beliefs and theories as facts:

They have a creepy love fetish for something that doesn't show love back:

They respond to criticism with nothing but attacks:

They have a persecution complex:

They impose their will on other people:

They follow their leaders without question:

They hate other religious extremists:

They make normal people look bad:

Anyone here agree or disagree?

I actually had that thought before as well :D So, imo, a perfect description... the principles are the same ;)

ROFL, I normally don't agree with Squilli but this time I just have to bow to this, it's genius!

And Atari fanboys love something that can't love them back.  Atari isn't even around as its original company.  It is just a brand that some other company bought and changed their name to.  The same Bushnell led stuff is long gone.  Yet an Atari fanboy will end up still having the Mount Fuji symbol as their avatar on a videogame forum
