Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft computer accessories and Windows mobile are both struggling.

The mothership is being insulted. Btw Java is pretty similar to C# and C+ so you should be able to pick them up quickly if you wanted to. Oh yeah I sent an Email to Major Nelson about Natal and I asked a guy at Microsoft about the EDD hiring procedures and unfortunately he didn't know.

Tease.

As for the keyboard/mice peripheral share all I have is an anecdote as I can't pull up data to support/disprove it. I've been doing a lot of computer shopping recently to build a few computers and every single computer store or computer department I went to had significantly more Logitech keyboards/mice than Microsoft keyboards and there were fewer Microsoft keyboards/mice SKUs than I remember. Can anyone else tell me more about this?

This is not a big problem to find out, actually. The last numbers from GfK point to roughly 40% Logitech, 20% Microsoft, 20% <some asian company I can't remember> and 20% rest of asian companies. This is for PC peripherals (with low margins). Adding XBox peripherals (100% MS at extremely insane margins) and the higher personnel costs for Logitech to the equation, we can estimate MS profits to very roughly match the profits of Logitech (and these are known numbers).

its quite understandable though nokia alone have 40% of the smartphone marketshare.

if u put wm, blackberry and android together it can barely touch it

Yeah. I have done a little C++ in college in a graphics course and I actually created a game engine using c# and xna. The framerate would dip every five seconds or so because what I think was liberal use of object creation so garbage collection was dipping the fps. I started to create a general use pooling tool but quit and figured I would just use Torque and save some time. That's cool that you contacted MS. I might shoot them an email after work calms down in January. We deploy all the big web site changes twice a year and Jan 2nd is one of them. I am hoping they offer Natal support with xna.

Android for me now after using Windows Mobile for a few years.

WinMo is suffering, yeah.  Android is being used in devices that were originally to be WinMo phones (most infamously the new Motorolla Droid).  Even within MS, the constant delays (late 2010 now) for the full WinMo7 release are causing a lot of disappointment.

Its pretty sad, too, as you would think MS would be easily able to leverage its computer and gaming presence into a very popular Smartphone experience (remember Live Anywhere, anyone?).  What little info is out there is very hopeful, but will it be too little too late?  And will it continue to be a financial drain on the EDD (we'll never really know how well the Xbox 'division' is doing . . .)?  Who knows.

Shame, though.

Eh, this abit annoying, i've had my issues with MS before (and sony recently) but i'll be damned if i like or trust Apple with anything. damn, this ain't good, the iPhone is getting a little to popular...
