Forums - Gaming - What if Samsung made a console?

Dunno.. my brother bought a new Series 8 Samsung LED.. looks absolutely stunning.

Meh, it's probably nonsense, but if another company were to get into consoles it would probably be Apple or Samsung. I dunno, Korean game development has risen quite a lot in the past few years. Is it possible?

It takes a lot more than just electronic hardware manufacturing to become a major 1st party player in the video game industry and it's a lot harder than it use to be.

I must admit, a Korean console would be neat, there nearly rivallying japan games in some areas.

I don't see either Apple or Samsung entering the dedicated console market anytime soon. Apple's attempt at this, the Pippin, was not met with success. Their iPhone happens to be getting a lot of games, but that was not the main consideration behind it. Samsung, on the other hand, has actually been working with MS on the 360, and a lot of their tech is in the system. I guess if MS and Samsung had a huge fallout, they might enter, but I'm skeptical, myself.

Does anyone remember the Gamepark?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I'm pretty sure Samsung is very happy with just providing millions of RAM chips to current console manufacturers.

MS made an FPS console - a genre previously on PC. MMORPGs and RTS games are mostly PC - which are the favorite genres there. Samsung, I think could really get those two genres from PC to console like MS before them.

As far as sales - huge success in Korea, better success in China than other consoles, moderate success in America, moderate success in Europe, absolute failure in Japan (sorry).

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
