That actually looks really good.  Almost to the point of where it seems like a waste to be a mod.  If I could make models that decent i'd just look to try and liscense an engine and sell my own game for like 5 bucks a piece with original characters.

Mods have always been great and total conversions have always existed. No reason to change that now just because people buy the most retarded things on the consoles coughLBPcostumescough. Ahem... sorry, throat's dry.

But i mean, i looked around that site... not only are those costumes awesome... but they completely changed the gameplay.  It's a 3rd person melee fighter now with a new gameplay system for complicated techniques.

This seems like one of those mods that is prett much it's own game in it's own right.

But that's what a total onversion mod does. For instance someone made an RTS usingthe UT2004 stuff. Alien Swarm is a completely different top-down shooter. Gamaes have always had total conversion mods before. Don't see why they need to start charging for them now.

Though i'd say, partially because if it was good and sold well that would allow them to do future products.

While it's great to get a free conversion mod... I'd rather see these people with a lot of talent be making a list of fun cheap games that they got paid to make and therefore were able to work a little harder and faster on.

Well... they do. The ones who made Alien Swarm are making Alien Swar Infection which is supposed to be a a Source Engine Game. There hasn't been any updates in 2 years however, also there is a rumor that the devs were hired by Valve, AS is very similar to L4D as well so that may be it.
