I don't know if you have already played Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, but I would say it much better than Wario Land. You should consider that.
About your question regarding which game you should give up (Anno or Warioland), I think the guys above me have answered that pretty well. It is up to you if you rather have a 2d platformer or a polished and friendly sim.

^^ YES, New Play Control: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is really great, awsome 2D fun gameplay WITH a twist and it's very unique. i liked DK more than Wario Land. it also has a special "combo" system and also plenty of secrets that are fun to get.

besides the people who made Super Mario Galaxy also made Jungle Beat :)
