Lately I've been forgetting to log-off properly from VGC when I go to sleep, work, school, etc. I feel like I'm being a jerk when someone posts on my wall or sends me a PM and I respond hours later while remaining quote unquote *Online*

My suggestion is that a new feature is added to users' statuses. This is what I had in mind:
