Whats this like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-ZM-M220W-Monitor/dp/B0013U3Q70/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265928747&sr=8-2

Also can that be used with an ati card ?

This is one of the 3D polrized monitors available. The advantage is that glasses are dirt cheap. By the looks of thigns, it looks like this monitor comes with its own set of drivers for 3D. I doubt they are very good...but the good news is that it can be used with following software:

http://www.iz3d.com/ - ATI user 3D drivers are FREE!

http://www.tridef.com/home.html - 49.99 for the software which includes Google earth 3D and 2D to 3D software converter. Has 14 day trial.

I've not had the pelasure to use this monitor tech yet but I have used both tridef and iz3d drivers and both are very good. Not as good as Nvidia 3D vision out of the box, but they allow for more tweaking. Crysis Warhead was ebtter with Tridef than with 3D vision.

Yeah, I know it bloddy expensive especially when dealing with nvidia. Monitor is overpriced, glasses are overpriced ad their cards are overpriced. But their system will most likely last the longest. The smaller companies doing 3D will all most likely get bought out or go out of business now that the big companies are doing it...

Yeah any word on ati making their own 3d technolgy any time soon?

Nope, they are sitting this one out... No word on any 3D advancements from ATI.

Bump because I never saw this thread and it is absolutely amazing.

Wait, is it "Pop out" 3d or that RealD 3D crap? All RealD does is make things look like a diarama from a 3rd grade project.

You have to be more specific. RealD is the largest 3D content and projector maker in the world... they do all kinds of 3D.

Its like someone saying "You didn't buy that shitty Honda did you?" Sure some hondas are shitty but some are good too...

RealD does the true stereoscopic 3D in Imax theaters. If you saw Avatar, you know whats being discussed here.

@ disolitude: Very nicely done. Im very excited to see what 3D will be able to do. For those of us who are lucky enough to be able to take the techno jump (or like myself have a 3D ready tv) the possibilities are fantastic.

Rumor right now is that 3.2 PS3 firmware update will enable 3D on the ps3 (probably movies only).

Ill go back and find some of those links I showed you earlier, to add to the official post for members who want to read more (about HDMI, PS3 blueray 3D and other things)

Sweet...yeah if you find something that adds more details to the PS3 3D upgrade, ill add it to the OP. I tried to be as basic as possible, and there was no PS3 3D details when I made this thread...

While not gaming (but close enough).  This is what the blue-ray disc accociation wants to do with 3D blueray. (1080P per eye @ 60hz)

http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/permalink/?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20091217005371&newsLang=en

Now this is interesting too

"The 1.4 version of the specification will define common 3D formats and resolutions for HDMI-enabled devices. The specification will standardize the input/output portion of the home 3D system and will specify up to dual-stream 1080p resolution."

http://www.guru3d.com/news/hdmi-14-specifications-officially-presented/

The PS3s firmware update will included some of the 1.4 HDMI specs (such as Stero 3D support/throughput @120hz) but others it cannot (no audio to/from channel, no ethernet port since these require hardware as well).

http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/playstation-3/

I've added an informative video for PS3 3D plans. The bluray and HDMI stuff is really interesting too but ill leave it out as I want to keep the OP gaming oriented.

Its quite amazing that HDMI 1.4 supports 3840×2160p at 30Hz or 4096×2160p at 24Hz max. I know the resolution is meant for 3D (1080pX2) but I wonder if a TV will ever exist which supports the full HDMI 1.4 resolution in 2D.

I don't particularly believe that 3D on consoles will be viable until the next generation hardware comes out with dedicated hardware to render the scenes more efficiently.

Tease.
