Forums - Gaming - So I started playing Tales of Phantasia, it's pretty great...

Ever since I played Tales of Symphonia sometime 2-3 years ago, I've loved the Tales-series, and since then I've read up on lots of the games, tried Abyss (Didn't like it, but I'm giving it another shot later), completed Vesperia, played lots of Versus and am in the middle of playing Dawn of the New World with a friend.

Versus, and the series in general, made me want to expand my views on the series, so I bought Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut for PS2 and Tales of Hearts for DS (For those who don't know me, I know japanese) but I decided to not play them until I had played Phantasia, because if I played Phantasia after them it would most likely feel obsolete and annoying due to lacking features and such. My problem was, that my PS2 is not quite what it used to be and refuses to play PS1-games anymore. After about 6 months I decided to just play Phantasia emulated (I've got a 360-controller for my PC for just such an occasion), and I've got to say, it's pretty great.

I think it started off pretty slow, and way darker than the other Tales-games, but now that I've got Klarth and Arche in my party things are really starting to get exciting. Just wanted to share that I really like this game, and if fan reaction is any indication I can't wait to play Tales of Destiny which is seemingly the best of the bunch! Also, I love the opening to death.

Oh, and also, Dhaos rocks.

I have special love for Phantasia apart from liking Tales games in general, it was my first console game as well (though emulated at the time, with the DeJap translation).

Hell yeah Majin, you make me proud! :D

Tales of Phantasia is to me the best Tales game ever made, story and gameplay wise. Klarth FTW xD (BTW, just wait until you get past Alvanista Castle, that's where the story really starts giving you some pretty awesome moments :D)

Hehehe, Klarth is one of those characters that has so many hidden thoughts and feelings, you'll start to see his true personality once you get to the second part of the game ;)

Where are you right now? Since you said that you just got Archie, then you must have done Demitel's Manor right? Afterwards there are tons of spells that you can learn for Arche, before you continue the main quest.

Also, make sure you 100% all Cless's Techs, the advanced combinations that you'll learn along the way are totally worth it.

Yeah, I just beat Demeter's Manor, then did the Alvanista stuff with the prince being controlled and all that, and headed off to Moria Mine ... But I got stuck there so I did a save state (pretty lame, I know, but I was tired XD) and went to bed.

Wait you headed directly to Morlia Mines? You won't be able to pass it completely until you do both the Molten Cave, Cave of Spirits and Glaciated Cave, since in each you'll learn an elemental that is required to open the way for Maxwell on the bottom of Morlia.
