Why, if a western developer managed to make a platformer that sold over a million, why couldn't a western developer make a JRPG that sells 500K+?
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

I think I know what I meant... and it's exactly that.
A JRPG by Ubisoft would be a plastic, graphics focused atrocity - like almost all of their games. Assassin's Creed 2 is the only ray of light in their pitch-black portfolio... SC Conviction will probably be another one...
Ubisoft has a Japanese development studio too you know (Ubisoft Nagoya, formerly Digital Kids). They've also actually published lots of JRPGs in the past (Evolution 1-2, Grandia II, Lunar Legend, Lunar DS, Lost Magic, Jade Cocoon, Drakengard, Evergrace, Enchanted Arms, etc).

how would you know? did a JRPG ever been made by western devs? (if you know any tell me i would like to check it out!) i know alot of WRPGs made by japan though. |
It's just the way they are. Same reason why they don't buy 360's. If it's not an authentic JRPG they'll just laugh at it.

Art is all it has going for it... AC2 has that+gameplay+setting... etc etc etc
The JP market is very difficult to break into like M$ has shown. I wish Ubi luck.

Sudeki on the Xbox:

...and maybe Venetica on the 360:

I guess both could be considered western made JRPG's. Although Venetica appears to be more of a cross between an RGP and a Zelda style adventure.

those games are as much JRPG as fable.
