christmas is just an excuse for retailers to make more money.

For them, indeed.

i havent been "in the spirit" this year.

but i think its cos i havent had tv, radio, or much of a social life.

now that im home for the week, though, i've realised that its all about spending time with family and has nothing to do with presents.

family, and fairy lights!

Hm...

Conclusion: are you going to create a thread about drunk people in Christmas or not?

Quick question, some one told me Jesus was actually born in March, is that true?

It is very true.  Even all the Christians I know (myself included) and all the churches I've attended acknowledge that the time of the year was likely early Spring.  I forget the explanation of why we still celebrate it on the 25th December, but it is no secret among Christians that the date is technically wrong.

I can explain, but it's very long and boring.

They basically chose this date to coincide with a pagan celebration.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

http://www.essortment.com/all/christmaspagan_rece.htm

Yeah, the only thing I could remember was that it did have Pagan influence.

OKay cool, thanks for clearing that up

That information was also available in the link that I put in the opening post.

However, thank you nightsurge for the other link.

That's why I replied that way, but I asked about a thread that could explain the "drunkenness phenomenon" in Christmas, you know, meals, parties and so on... from a scientific/sociological and statistical point of view, of course.

25th of December is the birthday of Persian god Mithra, i guess it was a popular date at that time with religion.

well, i can only speak for the scots but it goes something like this...

1. big family get-together. = drink.
2. christmas pudding = brandy.
3. 3-feet snow, very chilly outside. = warming glass of whisky.
4. big meal. = drink.
5. days off work. = drink.
6. general happy atmosphere and mega jollility. = drink.

so now you know.
