Congratulations to the sales of FF. It certainly gave some nice hardware sales boost. I think Square should be proud.

On the other hand I have made previous comments that still has this fall into it. FF is such a big name that it has a strong loyalty. Many Final Fantasy fans "knew" FF13 would be on the PS3 and as such chose what system. It could have released on the NGage and done super well. In that the sales of 1.5Million in 4 days could be the core fans of Final Fantasy. I also think the core fans will show themselves coming for the next month. It will be 2 months down the road to really see the impact that Square has with Final Fantasy.

Why anyone doubted the strength of FF has with it's core fans I have no idea. Though i'm surprised the numbers aren't higher.

Actually, you raise a good point. It's quite possible that FFXIII could be considered a system seller if you take earlier sales into account, especially if you consider the week of the demo.

Jarrod is a very reasonable poster and The Source obviously makes some incredibly accurate predictions.  They're also clearly people who consider all the factors, and think a lot about these things.  This shows pretty clearly how FFXIII has performed versus the expectations of those on the site.


It's also worth noting that Famitsu expected 1 million to 1.5 million LIFETIME for FFXIII.  The game has just beaten the lifetime expectations of Japan's main market predictor in its first week.

 

 

By the way, if anyone is offended by me quoting their posts, let me know and I'll take it down.

I should mention, I didn't adjust my prediction after we found out the actual 1st week shipment figure (1.8m). I was basically expecting a virtual sellout of what we thought we knew previously (1.34m shipment rumored).

I still think my lifetime prediction is dead on though, but it may go a little higher (2.1m). The bigger shipment upfront just means it'll be more frontloaded, though I think it'll be a little less so versus FFX/XII thanks to the holidays. I'm predicting 270k for next week.

All 5 accomplishments are expected though. Two of those would be challenged in Japan when DQX is released.

 



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

DQ X is promised to be to DQ what FF VII was to FF, the rise of the series as a WW hit. And sure, DQ is just getting stronger in western market with the years.

Actually, FFXIII in Japan has done the single most successful first week sales for a home console game this gen.  No need to specify PS3.  It's beaten every Wii game and PS3 game released so far this gen.  And by over half a million, I believe.

 

Unless there's a game I'm not thinking of?
