Forums - Sony - Things Sony's Motion Controller Needs To Kill Natal

If anything Sony needs to market and succeed in what it's doing that makes it unique from the competition, (accuracy, and paired camera/motioncontrol, maybe dual stick.) After that they need a robust software package doing most of the successful stuff that natal is doing, showing that natal isn't all that more special than what Sony has. Also a robust wii-sports ripoff. On top of that you need aggressive pricing, but more so marketing- marketing is everything to getting the casual market.

Alot people who wanted motion control games bought a Wii, why would they buy a Wand if they already own a Wii? Look how many people here have Wiis and another system.

Currently I would estimate, that Natal has captured the imagination of the mass media, more so than the PS3 Motion Controller. This can easily be changed, by the games/experiences these two very different products bring to the table, as they approach launch.

IMO, the challenges these face though are very different:

The "wand" has to differentiate itself from the Wii, as it will be seen as a direct competitor. For the casual audience, I honestly don't know how you sell the increase in accuracy as a must-have (but that is my opinion only). For the core, the accuracy is it's strong-point.

Natal will have an easier time distinguishing itself from the Wii, but a tougher sell for the core, who can't see games without a controller.

While these two are after the same market, they are going after it with different approaches, so it's going to come down to the games...long winded for a straight forward answer.

Good points, which explain pretty well the conclusion.

I think that sounds pretty good...

i'm not sure about anyone else, but i'm ready for a new wii.  something a bit more accurate, robust (as in able to play all types of genres), with better graphical capabilities.  i'd buy the wiiHD right now if it were available but as it is not i have a least an interest into what the gem/natal will offer.

I really believe that Natal will be more successful than Gem. I own all three systems already and I am very interested in Natal, but I really don't see anything that special about Gem. Unless Gem comes out with a game I consider "must have" I'm not planning on buying it.

If MS releases Natal at a reasonable price, I'll pick one up on the first day. The features they showed in their video were more interesting to me than Gem. Turn on the 360 with your voice, facial recognition signs you in automatically, navigate dashboard and netflix with simple gestures, probable pc compatibility, etc.

I'm not that optimistic that either motion controller will have a huge selection of great games. I think we'll end up with 50% new titles and 50% regular games with tacked on motion control. Based solely on games I don't think either controller warrants a purchase, but also offers a new interface for the 360 so I am more inclined to purchase Natal.

I really don't think Gem can kill Natal.

sony needs a lot of GREAT software to make their gem look good compared to natal. =]
And also they need to price the GEM at 59.99 WITH the Playstation Eye.
Then each GEM controller should cost around 39.99.

Also, if that rumor that 2 GEM controllers can connect to make one regular ps controller, then it would be cool . =]

1. Not suck

2. Be cheap (inexpensive)

there you go

Although it could be filed under not suck:

3. Be able to be precise and real time.

If it misses movement, or is off by even a smidge, it will be junk. It must be able to handle more than "good enough" games. Wiimote+ and possibly Natal will suffer from this.

This too.
