I am really torn, myself. I know I will probably never play it unless I import it, because SE will probably not offer a language patch. But by the same token, Its not like I will know what is going on w/o a good guide... how quickly are fan translations coming along? Mostly need translations for story parts.

I am sure there are translations for menus and things already.... those are less of a big deal though, since they dont change. You might not recognize the words, but the "attack" button will always be "Attack", etc..

From what I've read, its rather linear early in the game but it supposedly gets better later on.

I hated it, too many characters, focus was split.

I won't import it, but some dude aparantly imported 20 copes in my neigjbourhood so gonna try and buy it off him. I already spoiled myself to the story so I just want to play at this point.

I know at least one person who is.

I really hate direct comparisons like this. They tell us so very little. Akiba hated the split focus, so could easily find FFXIII to have the better story as a result, where as I really liked that. I liked how every character was fleshed out so well, and that made me like the story so much. I hope someone puts up a better explanation of what was so good about the story rather than blanket comparisons to older games.
