Megaman 9 isn't hard. I'm tired of saying this. Were you guys playing the same game that I was playing?

I don't see where Mega man 9 "failed." So what it was more difficult than your average game today, it was also very true to its roots. I'm disappointed they (Capcom) are implementing an "easy mode." Don't download a Mega Man game on PSN XBL or WiiWare because you think it has that chic, retro appeal. It's fucking Mega Man, it's suppose to be difficult, and if you can't handle it, you don't know what the series is about.
GETTIN' CHRONOCRUNK
From what I understand, using 3D models is much more efficient than making good sprites, so 3D models would be the way to go. The problem is that, apparently, publishers don't believe that a 2D game will sell in the modern day. And to be honest, I don't see NSMBWii changing that calculation anytime soon. I think 2D Mega Man is going to stay on downloadable channels, at least for this generation. I also don't think they have what it takes to pull off half the things you're calling for.
It'd be awesome if I was wrong though.

agreed.. When my bf told me that MM9 was supposed ot be the hardest in the series i was EXCITED. It was no whare near as hard as they said... i think that if you market to the right poeple though you will have a large fan base . advertise on adult swim. RETO IS IN! it might be waning in the name of fashin a little but who doesnt love nostalgia and 8-bit will always be cool imo.

You are also right about NSMB Wii not changing this perception. It will be written off as anomaly or "well, it's Mario" and that's really sad. Third parties surrender before even trying, but trying is what actually created most series we still know today. I don't think I am asking for too much. This could be done with low risk. If it works, companies could win big time. If it doesn't work, it's not a big deal. |
I agree; unfortunately, I don't think companies are actually as risk-adverse as they claim (or they wouldn't be pumping tens of millions into "potential" blockbusters). I'm convinced that most developers simply don't want to make 2D games anymore, so they'll come up with whatever excuse they can.
| RolStoppable said: Well, even Shigeru Miyamoto didn't want to make 2D Mario again until recently. You catched the news that he wasn't directly involved in NSMB on the DS, right? |
Yup. Told ya it felt different than the others!

That's because it was on the handheld instead of a home console where 2D Mario belongs. Miyamoto isn't the genius you make him out to be. |
Where did I call him a genius? But every creator leaves his mark, for good and for ill, on his works, and the DS game certainly didn't feel the same as the others.
magaman 9 was really good, aswell as 2, but metal blades shouldn't return, they're a treasure you will
remember...
Well, this was my first reaction...
I'd have to agree. I don't see how a small online title would create enough interest worthy of something that Mega Man 2 was capable of, anyway. Mega Man 9 and 10 are great for the fans of older games, but...
Why not create a game that kids nowadays can enjoy? Do they still believe a 2D Mega Man worthy of $50 is impossible, even after NSMB Wii might be the best selling console game in Japan since... oh I dunno, the original Super Mario Bros?
C'mon. Do it.
I can't take this thread seriously because you have a Kim Possible avatar. LOL!
