I'm actually going to guess DVD again. The reason for this is that I'm absolutely certain of one thing: whatever comes on most new PCs at the time of the console's release, that's what the 360's successor will use. I doubt that Blu-Ray will be standard on most new PCs by then (if it ever becomes the standard, and I have some doubts about that).

My last two laptops have had a blu-ray drive in them.

OT.  There is no way they will use standard DVD in the next xbox.

Let me guess: you got heavily customized versions of the super-high-end models. I'm well aware that Blu-Ray can be built into high-end PCs as an option nowadays. I was talking about coming standard on most PCs, which Blu-Ray currently does not.

Or, to put it another way, look around you: what PC games come on Blu-Ray? None yet, to my knowledge, which is strong evidence that the PC game makers are not confident in Blu-Ray's market penetration. Until that changes, Microsoft will not put Blu-Ray into its consoles, because that would create a significant difference between XBox and PC gaming. The whole point of the XBox platform is to win converts from the console to the PC, and Microsoft believes this cannot be done unless the experiences are as similar as possible.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

You don't need a super-high-end PC to get a blu-ray drive.  They're becoming pretty standard.  People expect PC's to play any video format you throw at them, including movies on blu-ray.

agreed with millenium on the subtance but I went for DLC...

first of BR is not the dominant format and won't be in 3 years from now looking at the curves... and honnestly I don't think it will ever reach the success of DVDs
which BR is a somewhat improved copy nothing more... which makes the tech obsolete before launch by essence...
SSD or any HARD memory format is the way to go in the future... especially if they hope the next gen to last until 2020.... BR is a joke tech on a long term dev plan, anybody buying into it is a tool of Sony impressive marketing machine

well anybody who throw me a disc of any kind is a dinausaure to me.... my cellphone is a better memory device than a BRdis  that says a lot on the innovative aspect of the tech don't you think...

the only time I ever open the drive on my PC is to install an OS I can't mount on a USB key.... and I do believe people use less and less CD DVD or BR drives for that matter on their PC....  and you really don't need to be a geek  for that.... you want to watch a movie in HD on a pc I'm almost positive you can find a cheaper legal alternative than buying  a BR if you have an internet connection

I have no idea what a kowenicki is.... but being heavily involved by the advertising world, I can only admire Sony's performance.... many should follow their lead... they really have few mis happenings in their history...

I'm not atacking just BR but the all concept of a disc as holding a glimps of long term future....

first of even BR is painfully small as a memory solution for it's size... it is relatively fragile compare to what exist already... really unpracticle to carry... and needs more than just a tiny plug to be used on many different devices....

and that is not counting the simple fact that DLC is cutting a lot of the production cost for the distributor, it is cutting a lot of middle men for the end customer and therefor makeing the thing cheaper to distribute and buy....

and talking about Copenhag discs  have no future in a eco friendly world, and beside the tree hugger speech, it is indeed an inconvenient ecological waste that will cost companies in the future with all sorts of nice eco laws :)

no discs in the future all will be in sd card or usb memory sticks or something similar to that.

I have a great idea for DLC only games for the nexzt gen, but it's wayyyy to long to write here. If they go with DLC though, it could work, and it could have a physical aspect also (game card of some sort). I think Blu-Ray would work out just fine, since it'd be more familiar to people by then, cheaper, and could play movie disc, but from a next gen alternative i say DLC. My overall vote is Blu-Ray.

I have a tech question btw... what would be the average data stream in KB/s needed to play a game on a client console loging to a main frame server admiting you have an excellent ping to play a full HD game at 60 fps in solo mode ???
