Forums - Nintendo - No 3rd party games for Wii in 2010? I think not.

I don't want to go into a list wars, but yea there is some support.
Sega, Ubisoft, and Capcom have some good to great stuff planned. The rest from Destineer, 505 Games, and Southpeak Interactive are shovelware.

Konami is releasing yet ANOTHER Dance Dance Revolution....

505 games is still in business? how are they still around from producing shit?

In my opinion, I feel the Wii is not going to have a strong third party year like 2009. But that's just because I'm not seeing much coming I like. But partially, its also because of what some people are saying that most third parties have just already seemingly made up their mind and just aren't supporting the Wii as it is. And next year doesn't seem to be changing that. The same third parties have announced new games for the Wii. And no new third parties have announced any projects in the works. So there's nothing really to look forward to aside from 'more of the same'.

And if that's the case, 'more of the same' is one good game every 2-3 months. VS on the HD consoles where they get multiple good games a month.

Uh...not really. Going by NA dates of games that have confirmed release dates or at least a season...

January: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, No More Heroes 2, Sakura Wars, Sky Crawlers

February: Fragile, Endless Ocean 2, Shiren 3

March: Monster Hunter 3

June: Arc Rise Fantasia

"Spring": Trauma Team

"Fall": Epic Mickey

Then that's ignoring tons of other games since many don't have solid dates but they should be pretty spread out over the year like SMG2, Metroid, Sin and Punishment, Tales of Graces and other possible games like Monado or Dyanamic Slash and such.. And of course WiiWare games. So so far it's pretty solid and I doubt it'll be a good game just every 2-3 months.

2010 Wii games here: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=83745&page=1

Again, as I said, part of my reasoning is based o nthe games I am interested in.  But also, the other half of my reasoning is looking at Third Parties (which I'm focusing on here) that are working on the Wii next year.  And I'm seeing mostly just the same companies which have been working on the Wii last year.  And while that list of games you named looks promising to start off, its eerily similar to the list of games we had before 2009, with many of the same games repeating, which were delayed all through 2009 and never released.  Games like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Arc Rise Fantasia, Monster Hunter 3 and Shiren 3 were all big hopefuls for 2009, but held back or never localized for the west.

In other words, I'm saying I'm very hesistant, after being VERY optimistic in 2009.  I don't want to go through another year of backing up the third parties and saying 'they're coming through, they're finally doing their part....' and then finding that we only get one good game every 2-3 months like we did in 2009.  In other words, I'll believe it when I see it.  As for Nintendo, I know they'll deliver good games.  Metroid Other M and Mario Galaxy 2 alone will provide a good year for them, and they always have some surprise games they never announce.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Actually 2009 was a breakout year for 3rd parties. There were more great 3rd party games than the whole previous 2 years combined: 2.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
Tiger Woods PGA 10

As much as people like to talk about video games as art, no one is going to dump millions of $ into art. Video games are an investment with an expected return profit. It's a business. If you know beyond any doubt a HD brown and bloom infested semi-competent FPS is going to sell, guess what you're getting every 2 weeks?

For as much as 3rd parties cry like little bitches with skinned knees about how games don't sell on the Wii they haven't put out a grand total of 2 good game between the whole lot of them. RE:UC worked so now we have a billion rail shooters, WiiSports blew gaming wide open, so yes we're going to have a million minigame collections.

Video game makers are not artistic or visionary people--they're talented monkeys dancing for the marketing department. If anything, this generation has proven at least that much. Sure, it's entertainment, but so is masturbation.

I for one don't care if the Wii keeps the reputation that games don't sell on it, make a good game and I'll buy it, but don't think calling your festering pile of worthless shit game something like a "guided first person experience" makes it anything more than a festering pile of worthless shit.

3rd party lineup is awesome for 2010, at least in terms of localizations.

Things do seem like they're drying up a bit in Japan, but we're probably good for at least few more big surprises (MH3G, DQ7 remake, Inazuma 11 Break, etc). Weirdly, Japan's really solidified behind WiiWare though, much moreso than XBLA or PSN.

It's bad for the Wii when all of their big games are speculation. I don't think any of those will make it in 2010, well perhaps MH3G, but still doubt it.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Current rumor puts MH3G around May/June, and it's based off the western build.  I think we'll get *something* DQ related next year, be it Swords 2, Torneko 4, Monsters BR, the DQ7 remake or whatever.  And if Inazuma 11 Break doesn't happen next year, I don't think it'll happen at all.  Shame it and Ushihiro got shelved at L5's last conference. :/

Honestly though, after Q1, there aren't really any legitimately big 3rd party 2010 games announced for any platform, not just Wii.  DS, PSP and PS360 are just as dry at this point.

PS3, DS and PSP do have a lot of announced games, you know that, not even worth mentioning since it will take up a lot of space and time considering how many they are.

Nothing confirmed "big" for 2010 after Q1, just like DQX all the "big" games on those systems are just "tba".  In Q1 there's Yakuza 3, DQVI and KH BBS though, which is better than Wii has it.

@jarrod: You think none of the other games will make it in 2010? Wii has nothing else announced after Q1 2010, the other platforms have tens of game announced, it's not even funny. Wii has literally nothing else after Q1, save for DQX which comes in 2012 or so.

I didn't say that... I'd expect Agito and MGS Rising in 2010 at least.  Probably not Versus though, but it has a slim chance too.  Oh, DS does have Nunokini confirmed for spring 2010 though, so I wasn't entirely correct.

Wii might "only" have DQX announced for bigger stuff, but it's also the biggest announced 3rd party game too, on any platform.  It'll likely outsell all the titles I just mentioned combined even.

That's true. DQX is the biggest one, I can't deny that. But it baffles me to know that Wii has the biggest game, and then nothing else.
