Video games cause blindness in US!

I came across this interesting video about how playing video games and more specifically texting is causing a greater instance of myopia to occur in the US. It seems like near sightedness is up a staggering 66 percent since the 1970s, which is indeed a large increase. However, I have concerns about this so-called study.

The main concern I have is that this study has absolutely no scientific data to back up the theory that playing video games or texting will cause you to go blind. This is simply guesswork and talk by people that "think" they are experts and know what they are saying.

Personally I have been suffering with myopia since I was a child and have been wearing glasses for my entire life. I work on computers all day long and I also play a lot of video games and my eyes get tired and they burn. My eyes have also been getting progressively weaker as I age.

During a routine eye examination I asked my eye doctor if looking at a computer screen all day long would cause my increased myopia and burning eyes. He informed me that the reason for my "strained" eyes is because the human eye when looking at a computer screen for long periods of time will not "blink" as frequently. This lack of "blinking" can cause the eye to dry out. He prescribed an over the counter eye moisturizer and a break once every two hours or so.

The above paragraph is why I put absolutely no stock in the theory that playing video games is why the instance of near sightedness has so dramatically risen. Blaming video games and texting is not a valid explanation. My eye doctor isn't simply a doctor that performs eye examinations. He is also an eye surgeon that operates on eyes, so he should know what he is talking about.

The only part in the video that may have some merit is the fact that today's children partake in less outdoor activity and thus are exposed too less natural light. I have no concerns about this and it may be a more realistic reason for this increase. Playing video games, looking at a screen that is close or reading a book for that matter will not cause much harm to the human eye.

I was seriously thinking about giving up the use of computers and playing video games because I honestly thought it was ruining my eyesight. I still get tired burning eyes but I no longer worry about it after getting the opinion of a real expert. If you have concerns about this subject I would suggest you consult your eye doctor...

Now the world is weird  and people take Prozac  to make it normal.

Yeah, according to that everything you do up close is a problem...not just video games...Including reading......And also keep in mind that that entire report is preliminary...so they haven't proven a single claim

Zero new information

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

I think that guy's bad hairpiece is causing blindness.

Hmmm... I have been playing video games and texting tons for years now... and I've always had 20/20 vision. Last checkup I was just ever so slightly far sighted.... so myopia is definitely not was is happening to me.

just eat vegetables, & your vision should stay sharp and clear.

Yeah, right.  How else am I supposed to prevent eye-acne?
