No... this is just a rumor, to my knowledge SE has never said anything about FFXIII budget

Well, Final Fantasy 12 cost $40 million with a crazy long development time. I imagine that it's somewhere between $40-60 million.

well companring this to Final Fantasy 12 won't be right as it wasn't HD and FF13 has been in develpment since FF10

No it has not been in development for 8 years. That's a huge load of BS.

And what makes HD games cost more than last generation? They require more time to make and larger teams to work with. The main cost there is salaries. I highly doubt the size of the team changed all the much and the development times aren't too different.

While I think it's definitely more expensive, it's a possibility that they're not far apart.

The same reason that made Last gen game cost more than the gen before it ?

Game development is on the rise every gen

no not really... rising cost has more to do with developers goin crazy with budgets, not the actual systems

it was first in development to be on the PS2.U shud really do some searching.

When the production time exceeded and new cosoles were released, they then announced it as a PS3 game

Probably more expensive than most of us would think...

Not only has the game been in development for a long time, but it's also developed in Japan, with developers paid in strong Yen.

Hard to make any specific estimates without knowing the team size.

Not really, game development saw a big increase from last gen, thats why portable systems become the no1 choice for small studios

@nen-seur - im not denying that development cost inflated with the new, but its has more to do with developers giving crazy almost impossible to get back budgets if your not a big league well respected player... like is 100mil really needed? thats too damn much

discuss the future costs here
