Insane Wii and DS sales!

Guys, is that Wii 50$ gift card deal still going on? I think it's time for me to complete my 7th gen console collection.

The PS3 and 360 are extrmely close for this time of year in the Americas. The NPD #s will be interesting for December.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

Well as for the UK I was seeing a friend who works in the local HMV and he said to me they had sold over 100 wii's that friday (12th when they normally sell maybe 5) and when visiting Trafford Park I saw lotsof people walking out os shops with Wii's at variouspoints. Great thing is if they were buying it for thmeselves they were all ages which is great for the vg industry as a whole

These are just some ungodly sales.. 3 million between that of Wii and DS this week. Wii just having some amazing sales but it's not hard to understand why. Big software driving hardware (NSMB Wii, Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort, Mario and Sonic, etc), $200 pricepoint which seems to be a sweet spot for the Wii (very good for advertising btw), and for the first time ample supply of Wiis in the holidays. DS is of course still building up from the huge week of Black Friday, but I'd expect some pretty big increases from last week to this week so be prepared. PS3 sales staying strong along with 360. PSP hanging in there but it's not going to be a very happy Christmas for it.

What we are looking at for this week (Dec 13-Dec 19) is really some groundbreaking things. We could see both DS and Wii over 2 million for the week. Wii probably in the 2.0-2.3 million range and DS in the 2.2-2.5 million range as long as they haven't stabilized from previous big increases which is possible for Wii in America thanks to the Wal-Mart deal but I think it is still goign on so shouldn't affect it too much. We could potentially see PS3 over a million in its final week. We are going to see about 750k-800k between that of Americas and E/O and depending on how big FF13 is in Japan it might be in the 1.0-1.1 million range which would be incredible for a console that isn't dominant brand.

The final thing we are looking at is a more competitive market at the expense of the PSP. It really does seem this holiday season that everything is expanding all at the expense of the faltering and failing of the PSP. It's not like it has opened up room for bigger sales on other platforms but while everyone else is having record sales or comparative sales to 2008 this is the only system that is having issues staying relevant.

But great sales this week tied in with some impressive software. Next week's sales data for this week though is the big one so prepare for a great week.

Wii advertisements over the course of the month have been INCESSANT. Non-stop commercials have been running, all advertising things Wii-related. Now that the Wii has strong software to complement the ample hardware, sales are there for the taking.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

i think the Wii will destroy my predictions, i said 62 million by the end of the year so now way its going it will do more... probably 65 million by the end of the year... ...

hey least it need 1 more million then it beat the nes sales

wow what a week for Nintendo, just look at the wii and ds sales 3 millions combined, wii marketshare is holding it's ground, again close to 49%

next week will be very interesting, possible 2 million for each wii and ds, i am sure ds would do it, let's see if wii can do it

and PS3 would be close to a million, it all depends on Japan

Damn @ Wii sales. I'm a Wii optimist, but i sure didn't expect sales this high. Like I have been saying, never underestimate the power of a new classic Mario game. I mean, there is a good 15 years of pent up demand for such a game. Plus the prolonged effects of Wii Fit + and Wii Sports Resort helped too I'm sure.

Good opening for Silent Hill at 44k hopefuly this game will become a success

I'm going to repost what I said in the article comments:

Who the hell is buying this thing? All my friends, who all game to various extents haven't touched one since brawl came out. No one in my whole extended family, friends of friends, or even minor acquaintances don't but it. So who is? I know we talk about casuals and how wii sells to grandmas and children, but I always figured it was more as much a joke as it was true. But is there really this vast audience of Grandmas and soccer moms eating this up? How does a console with such little rapport with the gaming audience sell so well?

Before anyone asks, I'm not mad, the wiis hardware success means little to me. I just can't wrap my head around it.

A lot of people are buying it. I only know 1 person who bought one in the last few months, but anecdotal evidence means precisely jack and shit anyway.

The reason the system is selling so well is precisely because it has such little rapport with the gaming audience.  The Wii is the game system that got a haircut, took a bath, lost some weight, and made some new friends. Yes, Nintendo can no longer recite all the words to every Star Trek episode ever like his old buddies Sony and Microsoft, but he's being invited to parties now while the other 2 stay home on Saturday nights masturbating with tears in their eyes.

Gaming is a niche hobby with very little exposure in the legitimate press and media and a negative social stigma. Maybe your friends haven't touched it but that hot chick you're terrified to walk up and talk to just got one and she JUST  ADORES Wii Fit.

(speaking in hyperbole, but you get the idea)

It was obviously fixed, but we did overtracked it. The reason seemed to have been less Wii were available in December than expected.

Last December Nintendo suffered stock shortages and as such sales were less than they could have been. There are zero stock shortages now, so that won't be happening this year.

And if anything, this site has undertracked Wii sales by quite a bit lately...

Care to explain the bolded red part?

i believe he is refering to the latest NPD numbers for one month anf forgot all the other ones.

Oh, i forgot. NPD are never wrong. My bad.

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic. But if NPD is wrong, whse number is right?

OT: Walmart deal certainly helped Wii but it ended on 12th. I'm not sure Wii is going to hit 2 mil since this week's number is a little inflated. I expect it to be close though.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
