Forums - Sony - Blu-ray 3D specifications finalized, your PS3 is ready

I just don't see this taking off any time soon. I mean last I checked ~30% of people had an HDTV, so 3-D ready is on such a small portion it won't hit the mass market appeal in at least two years.

Thats actually the point, a 3D TV also is a HDTV. If you wait for everyone to get a HDTV then theyll have to purchase another TV. But if you release fast enough, people can get their first HDTV with 3D ready for a very low premium.

Surely 100hz and 120hz tv's will only need a quick firmware update to be able to recieve higher than 60hz signals. One would expect calculating moving objects and creating an extra frame is harder than just displaying the extra frame recieved.

I'm not buying a new tv any time soon.

Err... when is the last time you updated a TV firmware?

I downloaded it just the other day, all you need to do is put it on a usb key and plug it into the tv.

Do all or most of the 120 Hz TVs have USB and firmware updates?

That won't happen.

These TVs dont actually do 120 Hz. Their visual engine compromizes and inserts extra frames to smooth things out. Each manufacturer calls it something different..."smoothing", "stabilization"...etc.

you are right in saying that most TVs bought in the last 2-3 years have USB slot for updates, but if the hardware just isn't there, you can't update it. I'm still waiting for a 360 dashboard update that lets me do blurays :)
