Forums - Gaming - Video Game series that are milked a little too much

There are a lot of good game franchises out there, but making too many games at once can ruin it.

The two biggest examples, that I had in mind, of companies milking game franchises is Guitar Hero and Mario. I mean seriously every time I go on the internet I hear of a new guitar hero game coming out, Right now there is about 60 guitar hero games, and still increasing!

Don't even get me started about mario, Nintendo is making so much god damn money off of him that it is unbelivable, and because of this I have a slight regret to be the hardcore mario fan that I am, Nintendo is just keeps making mario games left and right, and Mario has become less precious to me as a gamer.

I am afraid that the legend of Zelda will suffer the same consequence, Mario and Zelda games used to be big for me but now I cant even count how many of those games are coming out (don't get me wrong I still buy the gems like Galaxy and TP)

So the question is what are some game franchises you think are getting the life milked out of them? And do you think the same way I do about Mario, Zelda, and Guitar Hero?

How is Mario milked?

Mario has a lot of games, but milked implies old and stale and Mario is really anything but that.

Zelda is the same way.  There may be a lot of Zelda games, but each one brings A LOT new or builds upon the previous game (Spirit Tracks) so that it still feels good.

It's perfectly fine for a game to be a large franchise but just because there are a lot of them doesn't necessarily mean milked.

Now Guitar Hero, that is a great example of milked to death.

I didn't say that Zelda was milked but that I am afraid that it will become that way, It used be like once every 5 years that a zelda comes out but now they are making a 2nd one for the DS and one for the Wii

I can understand the he thinks that Mario is milked because there are a lot of games that have "Mario" in the tittle (I doesn't mean it's milked, though).. But Zelda? We haven't even get a proper Zelda Wii.

Mario and Zelda are anything but milked. Milked means used to much and got stale and those two are quite far away from that.

Mario seems that way because Nintendo has used a limited amount of their IP backlog (only 65%-75% of their franchises). They aren't pulling out the Donkey Kongs, Star Foxs, F-Zeros, Kirbys, shoot, Mach Rider...all that good stuff.

Zelda? Pfft. Haven't had a console one in 5 years, could be 6.

Guitar Heros actually destroyed the sales of a whole genre----that's milking.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Not.. really.. Normally you have 2 Zeldas per console and everyone takes 2 year from eachother to make, it has taken them 5 years to make a Zelda only when a New console is out (And only happened once).

If your definition of milked is a game that comes every 2-3 years.. There's a HUGE list of milked games.

We have like two to three of these threads every week now, what's up with that?

OT: The Sims, my god. How many packs and small bits and expansions exist in that franchise now? Female gamers FTW!
