I think it's the platformer genre which has been overlooked as a whole in the recent past, there were not that many platformers released in the last decade, or a least really amazing ones...

And as many already said, the Super Mario's, in both 2D or 3D, are such amazing games that it's quite hard to compete...

A game like Klonoa on Wii was nice, but did it really deserve to sel as well as Galaxy? Same thing for De Blob, a nice and cool effort, but not a masterpiece anyway... Lost Winds did many things right too, but is it overlooked? It's hard to know, but it seems successful on Wiiware... the scale of that succes is unknown, though...

But i think the only platformer that really made an impression on me (outside Galaxy and NSMBWii, of course) is the Kirby's Canvas Curse on DS: now that was something different, and totally enjoyable...

A shame that not many others tried to reinvent the platformer genre thanks to the stylus input... but the game received many good critics, and sold quite well anyway... not in the Mario's league, but how many games can be in such a league, in ANY genre? Easy to get overlooked, that's for sure...

I think jumping flash was a great game for its time.. and although it did get a sequel, it kinda died after that....some1 needs to bring it back :)

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

Don't forget you also have the sidescroller genre that spawned from the platform genre creating perhaps the best game ever made in the genre as well as one of the best games EVER PERIOD: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. nuff said :).

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Chip and Dales rescue rangers was also another brilliant NES multiplayer platformer that many over looked at it's time despite great ip to go along with good gameplay.

...Says the guy with the Alucard avatar.    Not that I don't agree, because I do.

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...
