I think they made a good choice for the general mass.
But we all have our own GOTY and mine is Demon's Souls.

Yea this is a good point. People can have their own differences against certain genres and games, but anyone who has been in gaming long enough can understand and recognize quality and extroardinary accomplishment when it is there. I will never ever play a racing simulator ever and probably will never like it, but I can recognize when there are good games in the genre and why others might like them. For me there are very few games that have been noted as extremely good that I haven't at least been able to understand and recognize where they are coming from (namely Gears of War 1 but that's for another time haha).
