Forums - Nintendo - NINTENDO CHOOSES AMD's "FUSION" FOR THE NEXT GENERATION Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol@people buying into Sony's marketing. The Cell really isn't that powerful at all in 2009.

I could believe Nintendo using Fusion for their next console, but this is obviously fake.

Does this mean outstanding graphics cuz I may have pooped a little

Everyone needs to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer.

While the news is obviously fake, I do think Nintendo is already far into development of its new console and working hard on trying to be the first to release their next console.

Though I think 2011 is way too early.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I hope that everybody understand that this would mean moving from a PowerPC CPU architecture to an x86 one, with obvious consequences when it comes to costs of back-compatibility and toolkits/dev retraining.

I'd rate this as a very remote possibility.

First generation Fusion APUs are based on a GPU (R800, Radeon HD 5000 series) that's three generations ahead of the ones in PS360, though it's also fairly stripped down because it's on the same die as the CPU, and there are heat constraints and such... but IIRC the one used in Fusion's going to be comparable to a 5600-series one, so that would handily out-muscle either of the GPUs of the HD Twins, and offer newer features that they don't.

That being said, however, this rumour is likely not true.

If at first you don't succeed, you fail

what is AMD's Fusion?

An AMD x86(64) CPU and a Radeon GPU in a single chip. It's been planned since the AMD/ATI merger of a few years ago.

I'm gonna go with fake. Nintendo is going to stay with Power architecture for the CPU in order to preserve backwards compatability. (Fusion could probably emulate the Wii, but I don't think they want to do that much work.)
