Forums - Gaming - How well do you expect the next Killzone and Resistance games to sell?

Killzone 2, with all its massive hype and critical acclaim, didn't really live up to expectations when it came to sales. While one can argue that 2million+ and counting is very respectable, it's still not ideal for a game that was in development for 5 years. Resistance 2 on the other hand (fantastic game) had decent sales figures, but were considerably less than Resistance: FOM; however, that is probably due to the fact that FOM was the only good game at launch!

Now that both franchises are a little bit more established and we know that both games are coming sometime in late 2010 or early-mid 2011, how well can we expect them to sell? Indicate your first week and LTD sales!

My prediction

Killzone 3:

First week - 1.2 Million

LTD: 3 million +

Resistance 3:

First week - 750K

LTD: 2 million

Same as they are now, with a little higher FW for K3

How exactly do we know this?  Resistance 3, maybe.  Killzone 3?  Do you really think after taking 5 years on the last one they will have K3 out in just a year a half?  I'd say a full 2 year span would still be pushing it for that game, but I guess mid 2011 may be possible.

OT:

I think they will probably fare about the same with maybe 10% higher LTD numbers.  Killzone 3 has the most to benefit, I think, as Resistance just doesn't seem that big on PS3 anymore.

kz3 will do more hten 3 mil life time because kz2 is going to do 3.2 lifetime.

resistance 3 needs to be way more kick ass (but i kinda hope they kill this franchise to make kz their biggest shooter with a story)

kz3 willg et an extra million sales if it gets ofline multiplayer

The majority of those 5 years were spent creating the fantastic graphics engine of KZ2...now that the engine has been established, they will simply need to make some minor improvements to make it look even better than the original (God, Imagine that!)...so yes, early-mid 2011 is very possible. In addition to that, the rumours about Guerilla Games working on their next game to release late 2010 or sometime in 2011 are piling up.

If they try adding some sort of co-op mode or splitscreen that could change things and take a long time to develop.  Just a thought

Good point there! The only thing lacking from KZ2 imo was the fact that it didn't have co-op and splitscreen multiplayer!

hmmmmm interesting & innovative discussion

I feel:

Killzone 3 will perform slightly better than Killzone 2 IF SONY is able to put uncharted 2 type hype behind it

With regards to Resistance 3, I think the franchise is kind of not as relevant anymore as it was say 1 or 2 years ago, bigger & better games have come out.

Neither will do as well as the 13th Fantasy Epic
