Also, Raistline, would you care to comment on what I said about Halo PC and Halo Xbox never having any cross-platform play?

For me KB+M is the way to go. After that comes Wiimote/IR pointer. Far after that comes dual analog. However there's a whole generation that's grown up with playing FPS with DA and they'll swear by it. Mainly because they suck with KB+M or IR.
Comparing a PC shooter to a console shooter is like comparing an F1 car to a Rally car. Sure one goes a lot faster but the Rally car was designed with different objectives in mind. Both F1 racers and Rally racers are equally as skilled but in different aspects of driving. The same thing is true for the KB+M/gamepad argument. Sure one is faster but console fps are not designed around twitch play. If you look at the top console FPS pro's playing you see that the game revolves significantly around team work and map control.
Also your claim that you played Halo:CE multiplat is complete and utter bullshit. XBC was a system link tunneling device, I would know since I played almost every day. There was no way whatsoever so play Halo:CE cross plat so don't make up shit to make yourself look good.
The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers
I'd go with DA any time. I actually cut my teeth on the original Unreal Tournament, dragging my AMD Duron PC with a 21" CRT monitor around to friend's homes for LAN parties. I was usually the best of the bunch. I prefer Dual Analog now though, it just feels more organic, like you are controlling a person who is swinging a gun around. KB+M for me now feels like playing a really fast game of Monkey Island, I'm just pointing and clicking, feels like I'm whipping up an Excel spreadsheet or something else menial.
Mouse/Keyboard.
Wiimote + nunchuk is playable, but dual analog just sucks hard imo.
I have never bought and I will never buy a FPS for my consoles (aside from Wii).
edit: I may have never bought a console FPS, but seems like I have one (007 Tomorrow Never Dies). I have yet to try it though.
Raistline said: I wonder if this phenomenon of people leaning towards controllers VS KB+M has anything to with age or with what systems got them into gaming.
Anyone else mind divulging? |
My NES got me into gaming, but I always played FPS on the PC (same age range as you).
Wolf3D, Doom, Duke3D, Quake, Team Fortress...
It's not like there were any FPS on consoles back then to compare.
I seem to recall Shadowrun being a game that allowed both PC and Xbox players to play together.

1. If the game is playable, fun, and built around the specific input device, it doesn't matter.
2. Competitively, when everyone is using the same input device, it doesn't matter.
3. Game design, game design, game design.
I totaly agree with ur family member. In school when there was some sort sports competition i would totaly chop me a limb off or punch myself in my eye to get some challenge.
