Forums - PC Discussion - Contoller/Console better for FPS than KB+Mouse/PC?!?

The mouse is undoubtedly better for aiming, and the analog stick is undoubtedly better for moving.

These are facts.

But, some people prefer the feel of a controller, and they may be better with a controller than a mouse, compared to the general population. IE: they get better scores with a controller than KB+M, because EVERYONE is using a controller.

I disagree that an analog is better for moving. It's only better for moving if you limit the KB+M user to only using a keyboard.  You have to remember they are used in synergy.

BTW I challenged this family member to play me in Unreal Tournament 3 since it allows
cross-platform matches. He refused saying that it would be unfair because aiming is so much easier on the PC.
At this point I was flabbergasted, totally dumbstruck. I had no idea what to say to that.

Is there cross platform play in UT3?  Last I heard was when EPIC confirmed it wouldn't have cross platform after all.   And googling it, so far I don't see anything saying otherwise.

I think there are some h4x to do PS3/PC together.

But the 360 version's limited to xbaaaaawkz leiv as far as I know.

Dam, you are correct. They did take away the cross-platform play before release. There has to be a way I can do this. Maybe I will have to resort to using an Xbox PC controller on a PC.

Mouse > Joysticks

Controller > Keyboard

That's how I see it. The mouse is great for aiming and shit but the keyboard blows ass for buttons compared to controllers.

Keyboards are designed for typing, not gaming; Controllers are crafted 100% for gaming and fitting nicely into your hands. I'll give the mouse the credit it deserves though.

I wonder if this phenomenon of people leaning towards controllers VS KB+M has anything to with age or with what systems got them into gaming.

My age range is 25-30, I started my gaming career on Atari/NES/Sega Master system/PC (dos/win3.1) all at the same time, just not simultaneous.

Anyone else mind divulging?

So far the best synergy for FPS controls is that of a kb/m. But for Console FPS's that hasn't been much of an option with the exception of UT3. A while back a little gadget showed up and I have been following it closely and now with the v.2 I am hyped and will get it. Yup, I am talking about the FragFx. The original one was ok, but this version apparently is vastly improved http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/04/20/review-splitfish-fragfx-v2-controller/
Even one of the top rated COD players seems to agree.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

20-25 range. I started out on Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Windows 95 games. Counter-Strike and Soldier of Fortune were may top games I used to play back then (both PC FPS). Then I got an Xbox and stopped playing PC FPS for ages (I never got very good anyway because I only played them at a certain friends' house). Then I got a 360, PS3, Wii, etc. Wasn't until last year that I got back into PC FPS and found out how easy it was.

Still prefer controller, though... and wish there was a good mouse + controller combo.

I'm 35.  I started gaming with Atari 2600/TRS-80
