I personally would be broken hearted to give up my 360, but I can say this much--I will not pay for it twice. I'm on my second one--first one got E74. I've had this one for about a year now and it's been holding up fine. I think I have about another year and a half on my warranty. But if the day ever came where I have to pay for my 360 AGAIN because they won't cover repairs anymore, then I will throw in the towel and trade in all my 360 games. Honestly, I don't think that will ever happen, but you never know.
Also--it should be noted that the above is hard for me to say. I am a big Microsoft fan. I'm a Windows geek, I love my 360, etc. etc. I like to support MS whenever possible. But again, I will never re-buy a console because the design is no good on my old one.
OP said he punched his 360, causing it to RRoD? Well, there ya go. The disc drive problem isn't covered, but the RRoD is. Send that thing in. They'll fix it. My last 360 was in exact same condition. I actually took it apart to fix it and caused the RRoD. When I called Microsoft and told them that I broke it and that I wanted to cancel my live account for a while, the lady told me to send it in anyway. She said they'd fix both the RRoD AND the broken disc drive.

Yeah, but when I punched it the drive bay door popped out 1/4 inch and won't close now. And there is something rattling around inside.
@Seece - Hey, you're right. When I sent in the box the first time, the tech person said I was lucky because I came in just under the warranty. I didn't add up the time because it feels like I've been in this abusive relationship so long. It would be out of warranty now anyway.

Later, I bought a Halo edition 360 and that RRoD'd about 2 weeks before the 3 year was up, so I was lucky there. Now the replacement unit I got, which is out of warranty, just had a DVD drive failure. Then I punched it and it RRoD'd lol. Oh MS, how you beat me down and yet I still come crawling back. Looks like I'm going to go grab an arcade. What's the newest model? Jasper? I just can't pass up the 360 exclusives this year. |
Its normal for anybody to crawl back to their beloved system as well people accumulate tons of games and accessories to go with it, so its ok take the hit and stand tall =)
Wow that sucks man. At least MS has tons of killer games coming out to make it worth buying new consoles.
If you are a 360 fan , this is just something you have to deal with, Im on my 6th in 3 years so dont feel to bad, my other consoles are still original.

Thats not totally true. I've had my 360 for almost 3 years now and it broke once. Sent it in for free and they just gave me a newer 360 in place of the other one. So really I benefitted from the RROD because I got a quieter, less heat producing 360!

Yeah, there are a lot of people that just assume that everyone's 360 has broken multiple times and has just had a terrible experience. I had one for three years that served me well and sold it because I wanted an HDMI port.
Now I have my current 360 for probably about a year and it's still working perfectly and it's even super quiet.
