Forums - Microsoft - Is Star Ocean 4 last hope worth buying

ps3_jrpg_gamer, trolling much?
I know you are still waiting for old-school JRPGs on your Sony-beloved console... but don't try to downgrade games you would praised if they were PS3 exclusive.

You know you wanted them... Mistwalker is an amazing dev. Sakaguchi, Uematsu and so on...
I feel a strong fear towards Microsoft in your behavior.

Go buy a 360 and be a real JRPG gamer.

Actually none of the current gen console offer a strong line up of JRPG. I know that games depends greatly on taste, but I think that if you appreciate blue dragon and lost odyssey you did not play the awesome RPGs before them. While the games are good I agree, they offer a very bad experience compare to all the great RPG games it was possible to enjoy on PS1 and PS2, and on super-nes, genesis if you dont mind 2D games. I may be wrong, maybe you have played a lot of RPGs in your life and simply enjoy those titles more. But its not the case with myself, the RPG fan friends I know and the reviewers. Im not taking any side into a console war, the line-up on PS3 is not better. Each console have a very very few excellent RPGs.

First off let me start by saying the LO was great no doubt about, however Blue Dragon is THE worst JRPG to release this gen it was a horrid 360 JRPG, a disgrace to gaming.

I'd give LO an' 8 outta' 10 while BD a 2 outta' 10.

As for Star Ocean: The Last Hope, pretty much everything Nightwish said, its Great, but not worth a $60 price tag, i'd give SO4 a 8.5 outta' 10 on Xbox 360, it was lacking much from what Till the end of time did.

Has Blue Dragon been added to the list of JRPGs that you bash all the time without having played them? Just asking. I know that Tales of Vesperia and Persona are already on it, and I'm just wondering if this is as well.

Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about it?

Please don't judge what you do not know.

I've played Blue Dragon, i hated the battle system it was to slow, i hated the graphics, it was ugly, and i hated the Art-Style most of all, stupid looking dragon ball z-like characters.

I've played Tales of Vesperia to.

The only game i haven't played yet is Persona, other then that i have no opinion on it rather then not liking it for its religious blasphemy.

However my opinion on Blue Dragon and Tales of Vesperia are valid so kindly dont go there would you?

I wasn't judging you. I was only asking a question. I wasn't being totally serious either, so you really don't have to get so defensive.

For Vesperia, I may be wrong, but I could have sworn I read in another topic that you tried it out for a little bit at a game store. I didn't know that you actually played if for a long stretch of time before forming an opinion. My mistake. Also, don't try to say that you have no opinion on Persona, because I distinctly remember you posting negatively in a couple of Persona topics a while back.

I really like Blue Dragon, so I was just curious why you felt it to be a "disgrace." I have nothing to say about the graphics/art since that rests on personal opinion, but the battle system was arguably at a significantly faster pace than the system in Lost Odyssey, so I'm not sure how you can prefer one over the other in terms of speed.

Eh...Sorry, didn't mean to bite at ya', i've been bugged quite abit of why i didn't like blue dragon by quite abit of people at GameFAQ's and i get tired of explain'n my reasons.

But for me LO seemed FAR more faster then blue dragon, also when a game looks ... not good looking in both art-style and graphics to me, it really brings down the overall Exp of the game for me, so that really didn't help. thats the issue i had with Vesperia to.

And yes, the 360 has Wonderful JRPG's and out of those jrpg games i honestly feel blue dragon is the disgrace of them all, im just sayin' man, just my opinion im glad you enjoyed it though.

As for Persona, i will admit i was harsh with it, and still am to a large degree, but thats because of its religious blasphemy overall, and i've seen gameplay videos of it and read up on its storyline and i could have sworn it has alot to do with demons. games like that i have issue with, which is why i have a harsh opinion against Demons Souls, it looks great in some area however... in some others... i'd rather not go here because outlaw is among us so yeah...

Annnnd... sorry if i offended you, like i said, i've been flamed for my opinion on blue dragon quite abit on Game FAQ's, it was a natural reaction for me. :/

Don't worry about it. Reading back, what I wrote didn't really seem that nice either, even though I meant it to be more tounge-and-cheek and less direct. I'm just used to a lot of people bashing Blue Dragon without having played it, so I was just making sure. Ironically, the Mistwalker RPGs and Vesperia are the only 360 JRPG's that I like I'm more of a handheld guy.

I will say that I can respect that fact that you dislike games such as Persona and DS because they may go against your religious beliefs.

Alright cool.

And i can understand that feeling, i do the same whenever Chaos Legion or a Tri-Ace game gets bashed left and right so i apoligize for that to, i dont like it when people do it to my fave games and i try not to do it to others in a rude manner of speaking (or typing on forums.)

And same here man! i prefer Handheld games overall this gen so far, tell me to you like Puzzle quest?

And thanks lol, i try to make the right choices in games, and religious stuff really makes it harsh, for example i will be skipping Dante's Inferno most likely, since i have a feeling it will be a strongly demonic game. to bad it looks great but oh well.

You don't go there because you've yet to have a valid reason against it..... because you don't.

If something go against your personal belief its more than a valid reason to dislike it. I myself doesnt care about this type of thing but I can see how someone would have a harsh opinion if it goes against something really important for him. Its understandable.

Just wondering... I thought legions (Thanatos, Blasphemy, etc) go against Christianity as well?

I'm not sure. I'm atheist and I don't care if I have to use a "Prayer" ability with a "Monk" in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, or if I have to hear the voice of God in Jeanne D'Arc (or fight against it in Xenogears), or if I need to take control of the Papacy and spread Catholicism in Medieval Total War. It's just a game, it's different what happens in a game than what I think in reality. Maybe I just don't give a damn, but I think it's not a good idea to pass on a great game just because you don't agree with something that happens in a game. If that were so, people wouldn't kill anyone in shooters too...

Heck, I don't get annoyed because I can't make my main character gay in Persona 3, even though it would fit my beliefs...as I said, it's just a game

Yes but its different for catholics or protestant than us (atheist or agnostic).  Im not sure if its the case with Seraphic, but a lot of real catholic or protestant believe that some types of media can be a "door" for demon. Some people could be more sensible to those kind of things. Im not doing judgment here, just stating what I know about this.

the question isn't if is worth buying, cmon, $30-50 isn't that much money.

The question should be: Is it worth playing? Do I have the time?

For me isn't, since 2009 and 2010 are loaded with GREAT better games.

And if you haven't played Demon's Souls, Dragon age, tales of vesperia, you should play that before.

And with Final fantasy 13 and Tales of vesperia (complete version PS3 exclusive) I don't much spare time to play Star Ocean 4 since it wans't even a must play a year ago when it came out.
