Forums - Sony - PS3 error 80010415 - PS RROD? HELP!

Hi guys

I don't own many games for the PS3, I've played Uncharted 1 in 2007, MGS4 in 2008, Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 in 2009. I've played 4 games in my PS3, I didn't spent many hours using it.

Last night I was showing some games to a friend and my console "died" on me! It doesn't read the disc and shows errors, 80010415 and 80010410F for example. I've looked in the internet and it seems it's a hardware failure!

Can anyone help me? :(

Thanks.

that is not RROD. It sound like a blu-ray drive failure. Contact Sony customer service, they might want to charge you though with it being out of warranty.

thats the PS3s way of saying "touch me"

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

I have had quite a few errors on my PS3, maybe even this one but I can't be sure.

Almost all problems were fixed by simply pulling the plug for a few seconds and one was fixed by re-installing the firmware.

I've called SONY, it's confirmed, it's dead :(

They want 180 euros to repair it..... :(

They didn't explain it well enough, but I'm going to explain what happened.

I've never had problems with the PS3, ok I don't use it a lot but I didn't had problems. Recently while playing Uncharted 2 the game froze on me and I though "ah it's ok, I've seen this a million times in other consoles, it's normal". The incident was forgotten and I started to play MP, the same thing occurred 2 more times but I didn't give it importance.

Last night I was trying to show some games to a friend, I started the PS3, everything looked normal, the game started then the image and sound (loop) frozen! That isn't good! I've tried everything, switching off, restoring defaults, other games, etc, but nothing! The console starts looking normal, then when we press to play a game it starts to struggle, then freezes and shows the error 80010415 (80010410F and some other errors).

I've called SONY of my country and it's confirmed, it's dead :(

This doesn't help anyone, but at least they know what happened to them. If anyone knows more about this please share.

Thanks.

I think it may have over-heated and melted the solder connections going to the blu-ray drive (common problem with faulty 60gb and 40gb models). Sorry for bad explanation, trying to explain it as simply as i can without using techno talk lol.
You don't have to use your PS3 regularly for this problem to occur, but if you use it for too long it will start over-heating, if not caught in time it will damage your ps3, normally it freezes then when you turn it on it will warn you by beeping and flashing red, this is sign to you to turn it off and let it cool down.

I have had the beeping problem at least 5 times now, but i have always turned it off after each time, still expecting it to die soon. (original 60gb release model)

Tharts exactly what i did , and now im selling my old one on ebay, sorry to hear about your ps3 dude, hope santa brings you a new one

My PS3 (US Motorstorm 80 GB w/ BWC) used to overheat as well. THen my HDD broke down because of this and I replaced it. Ever since I just use my PS3 outside of the rack and with plenty of space around it. I recommend this to you as well since the old models run hot easily and heat hurts the "ingredients" a lot.
