I think it may have over-heated and melted the solder connections going to the blu-ray drive (common problem with faulty 60gb and 40gb models). Sorry for bad explanation, trying to explain it as simply as i can without using techno talk lol.
You don't have to use your PS3 regularly for this problem to occur, but if you use it for too long it will start over-heating, if not caught in time it will damage your ps3, normally it freezes then when you turn it on it will warn you by beeping and flashing red, this is sign to you to turn it off and let it cool down.

I have had the beeping problem at least 5 times now, but i have always turned it off after each time, still expecting it to die soon. (original 60gb release model)
