Time = Money.
The time it takes to get through 12 system updates, installing game demos, installing game patches which is greater than what it takes to do it on Xbox Live probably comes up to between 2-5 hours a year depending on what you're doing. Its not long enough to really effectively get up and do something else and not short enough that it wouldn't be a bother.
Now you have to decide whether you'll base it on your salary rate or the time you'd charge for giving up your leisure time. If your time isn't worth anything then you probably get your games from your parents.
But there you have it, PSN is probably more expensive than Live if you place a dollar value on your time.
