Forums - PC - oh no !!! R.I.P mininova.com

For you guys using The Pirate Bay. You do realize they just lost a case and a handful of people were fined and thrown in jail right? The content is still there for now, but the site is being heavily watched by the feds and I would not chance downloading anything really.

Get off the bittorent sites before you guys get sued. Move on to something safe like usenet, irc or a rapid share type of service. You don't do any uploading on these types of places. Nobody has ever been sued for downloading just uploading.

Why do people even use torrents? They are way too slow, and quite dangerous legally. Now I'm not going to push toward piracy, but direct links from file sharing sites like megaupload and rapidshare are much more safe in these aspects as well as faster. For your French needs I recommend BUYING the Pimsleur audio CDs to supplement a class. They work wonders for your pronounciation and listening, though they aren't too good at teaching you grammar and obviously aren't good in written language. Still if you are taking a class they help a LOT. I was lucky enough to have a family member lend me theirs.

I personally endorse file sharing direct downloads myself. They are nowhere near as convenient (though sometimes you can get one with lightning fast speeds and not have to wait long before downloading the next file if you are lucky) as torrents but they are completely safe. IYou are playing with fire by downloading from torrents. But to be fair, I have been using torrents for 6+ years and I've never been dinged *knocks on wood*. But this past year I've used torrents sparingly since I started to get more paranoid. And I don't go about downloading from torrents in an irresponsible foolish way. If you download a popular new movie, music album, game, etc. Day-0 off torrents, you are just asking for it. I also downloaded from The Pirate Bay at least once or twice recently (which is incredibly stupid considering the FBI monitoring) but considering that I downloaded something that was old, I figured that the FBI wouldn't bother being on my ass about it. They're more concerned about the high volume highly popular Day-0 stuff.

Btw it's not entirely certain whether mIRC is safe. No one is stopping a mole from going over to mIRC, setting up a server and basically farming a list of IPs to catch pirates. But since getting stuff from mIRC is pure leeching, they might not care. The corporate big wigs would rather target the guys who are setting up these servers than the unwashed masses doing the downloading. Then again, why do corporate big wigs go after soccer moms downloading (and hence uploading since this is P2P) stuff off torrent or kazaa when there are much bigger fish to fry? If you want to stamp out piracy, doesn't it make more sense to focus your efforts completely on The Scene (release groups and topsites), major P2P providers (like that infamous guy who uploads a ton of Xvid movies on torrents. His tag escapes me at the moment), guys who upload to file sharing sites, torrent sites and warez sites?

Suprnova.org was the first big torrent site. It was a lot bigger than pirate bay.

Anyway piratebay is being monitored by the FBI now, that's why people say it's dead.

If only piratebay had cracked down on its.....cake....it wouldn't have been targeted as much as it was.

Did I miss out on some cake?

... Damn. I've been craving some recently.

I wonder if you're familiar with the kind of caek I'm talking about...

Well, if it's good enough for the FBI to set its sights on... I'd think it has to be good. Ne?

(tbh, I have no idea how that stuff gets around. Didn't know it was rampant on piratebay)

me niether. Apparently there was some kind of membership for that kinda stuff. Strange, because I only saw random clips of porn on tpb when I was looking for games.

The misinformation in this thread is ridiculous.

Nobody is in jail related to the pirate bay.

Nobody (outside the US) will get sued for downloading torrents from the pirate bay. It's practically legal in most countries.

There is plenty of porn tracked on the pirate bay, you have to join the site to see the links to it.

But my advice is to find a forum where the users share links to Megaupload/Rapidshare etc. for faster speeds.
