If you like to be a poser, get a Mac, if you like to get some work done, PC is your choice.

I'm tired of people saying that Macs are THE platform for graphics desigm/movies/music.
I can get a better specd PC with two H-IPS panel monitors for a price of a G5 with cinemadisplay.

The best feature about Mac is that it's dumbproof, as in if you have no idea what you're doing, it's much harder to mess up OSX than Windows. But then again, being dumbproof also means being restrictive, and you have to adapt yourself to the machine, instead adapting the machine to your needs/workflow.

The biggest infection we had in the last few months was a lame malware that spread to 5 machines. Of course that was probably the tip of the iceberg, I assume there was probably something much more serious underneath the malware but, of course, thanks to the wisdom of our military advisors, none of our MAC's have any anti-virus software because aparently "MAC's dont get virii" and they didnt want to spend another $1000 or so (after spending hundreds of thousands on AVID garbage) for the protection. This was the 2nd time we had an infection of this type on the macs, we had another earlier this year but only 1 machine was hit or at least that is all we found at the time. Ok so malware is not a virus but obviously it had to be delivered by some virus to begin with so it counts. Those systems had to be purged and reinstalled clean.

I also had the iwork virus infect 1 system earlier this year. And last year we had a few hits on the macs as well. I would have to look at old logs to see what they were.

Anyway, point is, macs are gaining a lot of popularity so it follows that virus writters are now stepping up their mac attacks.

I didn't say it was innovative. Honestly I don't care what other operating systems had similar functionality. I simply said that there's nothing like it on any other operating system, which you have yet to refute. I like it not because it's innovative or anything especially amazing, I like it because It's easy to use and handles a lot of things I do everyday. I honestly couldn't imagine going back to anything else for general use. Like I said before, show me something as powerful and as easy to use as Quicksilver for Windows, and I'll stop using osx.

I use windows too for gaming, but not more than I have to. I probably wouldn't buy an Apple Desktop because they're not a good value for me. For others they may be just what they're after. I'm not one to judge people because they buy something I wouldn't though.

I'll assume that you actually meant to respond to me, here.

I suspected that it was due to users downloading pirated software and giving it their admin password. I hope you righteously spanked your users for doing something that stupid on a work machine. If I were you, I'd solve the problem by taking away their admin access to their workstation. I have yet to hear of a serious Mac virus that doesn't require an admin password.

You're right, Mac OS X isn't completely idiot-proof. There's a certain level of stupid that no device can be designed to withstand. Reminds of a case I heard of where a lady wanted her MacBook repaired because she took a belt-sander to it to remove the paint. It wasn't painted, of course. That was the plastic case that she tore through.

This costs the same as the cheapest Macbook.

lol@anyone trying to argue that Apple products aren't overpriced

Ok. We get it. You can build your computer for less, or buy a non-Apple laptop for much less than a comparable Apple laptop. If we are talking about this from a hardware perspective, this is the same thing Nintendo has done this gen with the Wii. They maintain a healthy profit margin on the Wii and accessories, not unlike Apple computers, Ipod, Iphone, etc. The Wii is overpriced if you compare it to something like the x360 from a strict hardware perspective (for example), but the software makes up for this. The same can be said for Apple computers because of OSx, iLife, etc.

Except... Apple generally is at a software disadvantage...

Anything a normal user needs most likely exists for osx and is probably more user friendly. Despite the software advantage which is irrelevant for most people, osx is preferable for some people for general use, and for some professionals. For me personally, there is nothing that I know of that compares to Quicksilver for osx, so until I can compose emails from the same universal metatool that I use to launch urls, extract files, copy, delete, sync Ical with my phone, etc... I would rather use osx. For others I've met who've used osx, they prefer the simplicity and like the operating system.

Being a reformed mac hater myself, this is the single hardest thing to explain to lifelong computer nerds. Many simply don't get it, and probably never will.

If that were true... it would have more marketshare.

Mac isn't the Wii.

It's the Neo Geo.

It's a very expensive system that only caters to a very small niche.

Apple, Just like SNK are happy with that though because they make a nice premium on the hardware.

PC with windows for gaming and linux for everything else. Mac is just 'unique' network adapter address. ;)

It just works indeed.  So much for the supposed superior build quality?

Though, the title's a tad misleading, since it says people have had other issues as well. <_<

They certainly look nice though. The college just replaced the white iMacs we had in our graphic design lab with the new design of iMacs. Those thin keyboards feel so weird to type on at first.

Perhaps the specs are just too awesome for an all in one iMac?
