Forums - Sony - Sony NOT Learning from PS3 Mistakes - 3D TV Plan Will Fail

@ss12 - I did not know that. The article says SONY is leading the charge toward 3-D TVs.
I didn't know other manufacturers had the capability to produce such things.
You wouldn't know it by reading the article.

altho sony added a little something extra to the whole thing, 3d games lol, i don't care what people are saying sony do innovate.
@ avinashi - let me point out to you the bit you did not read the 3d galsses will cost UP TO £300 lol, so that means you will be able to find a cheaper solution if you want to, this whole 3d tv thing has been coming for years, the next step is hologram tv's, yes the mass market may not adapt it yet, but it is important to keep on trying to make advances, otherwise if businesses did not take risks we all still would have normal big cluncky t.v's and vhs players

^Yeah so $175 instead of $200, still overly expensive lol

This will flop so hard as long as it requires glasses

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

yeah it is overly expensive still, i agree.
still in 5 years time who knows this price may have fallen big time, i can't see sony making lots of 3d-tv's, i am sure they will make small amounts, because no doubt they are aware of the market potential for this product at the moment

here to prove my point:

"I think Sony has long term plans to build some displays, but only a small portion of them and not all of them. I think by keeping some manufacturing plants, they get to be quicker to market (and retain technological edge), but by not owning all their plants, they get some flexibility with investments and costs," said Woo.

If you want 3D, get a PC and go Nvidias next generation GPU architecture. What Sony can produce shoe horned onto a fixed system will be nothing near the level Nvidia can give you. what I don't get is why people would profess to love the concept of Sony's 3D when Nvidia has it right now and probably implements it better too.

Most people want 3D on living room and without even connecting PC to TV. Nvidias 3D is only going to be used with gaming but not with movies. 3D should work straight from DVD or Blu Ray without PC or it will never be popular.

pc gaming is dying, even microsoft is focusing more on console gaming now.

So now it will be easy for people to illegally download and burn 3D movies, if we have 3D tvs.

Thats quite funny actually.

You know the glasses for PC would also work for a TV as well...

Tease.

Ive said this before...and ill do it again. I have a 3D ready TV...67 inch 3D Tv. And I have the Nvidia Vision glasses and have played countless games in 3D on my PC.

There is no way that Sony will try and depend on this tech. Its not as good as people think... Only hopeless fanboys who have never tried 3D gaming are saying this is Sonys future.

If sony makes this available for some ps3 games (4-5 games tops will be able to do this on the PS3)...cool for them and PS3 gamers that have never tried 3D gaming, but there is nothing new in this and this tech has been around for a long time. Sony pushing this would be like nintendo pushing cartriges again.

3-D gaming is the future. I want it to be!

OT: I dont think investments just for a 3-D ready TV can be compared with the huge investments needed for high-end home consoles. Stupid article. Maybe the market ain't mature for 3-D ready TV's, but it sure won't cost Sony much.

3D is awesome

btw 3D glasses costs depend on the technique used..

polarized glasses (line/circular) only cost $5-10 at most and can look like regular sunglasses, but need a TV that is able to emit at least 2 forms of polarized light

shutter glasses are more expensive ($150-200) and look .. funny.. , but theoretically can work with almost regular TV screens (the glasses and the TV need to be able to synchronize)
