Forums - Sony - Sony NOT Learning from PS3 Mistakes - 3D TV Plan Will Fail

@sterhcp02 - 3D has been around for a long time the technology itself is not cutting edge as disolitude described.

BUT, personally I really like 3-D movies, and wearing glasses is not a big deal. The 3-D effects are brilliant in movies these days. Don't understand what the big deal is about having to wear glasses.

However, I agree with you steverhcp that the cartridge analogy was terrible and not relevant.

Ive said this before...and ill do it again. I have a 3D ready TV...67 inch 3D Tv. And I have the Nvidia Vision glasses and have played countless games in 3D on my PC.

There is no way that Sony will try and depend on this tech. Its not as good as people think... Only hopeless fanboys who have never tried 3D gaming are saying this is Sonys future.

If sony makes this available for some ps3 games (4-5 games tops will be able to do this on the PS3)...cool for them and PS3 gamers that have never tried 3D gaming, but there is nothing new in this and this tech has been around for a long time. Sony pushing this would be like nintendo pushing cartriges again.

name some of the countless pc games if you don't mind....

FEAR, FEAR2, Crysis Warhead, GTA San Andreas, Halo, half life 2. I tried a few others like Gears of War just to see what it will look like.

Sadly my computer cant run new new games in 3D like REsident evil 5 and GTA4. You need a MONSTER pc to pull these games off in 3D.

Here is a complete list of everything Nvidia vision supports

I don't think a lot of people realize what a huge monumental blunder, business-wise, the PS3 has been for Sony, and it's used this same strategy.

Sony is always looking for the next big gimmick....they just aren't very good at it, and what's worse, they usually tend to pick the most risky and expensive one. Do any of you realize how much these TVs will cost, and how much Sony has had to spend to make this happen? I certainly don't, but I guarntee it's an assload.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

@ourgunznevertire - I don't have hate for sony's tvs. I was one of the few excited about them, but I didn't realize I would have to buy a brand new TV just to watch 3-D. IMO the cost isn't worth the reward. Once they get cheaper I will gladly pick one up!

Demand is ALWAYS low when trying to produce an industry driver, its the way it works. See BluRay, Motion control, DVD, 3D graphics cards, Natal etc.

The way it works is simple - predict where the industry is likely to go, implement prototype units, showcase the application of that product and hope like hell you've read the industry right and your entry price is low enough, or you are happy with slow takeup early.

In this case, from the demos that Sony showed of GT and Wipeout running in 3D, it was absolutely stunning. If this is what they are looking toward...hell mother f*cking yes please.

Sony are not the only one's hedging their bets on 3D either. All the current TV manufacturers think the same as everyone of them has units coming. There are BluRay 3D players coming. Sony implementing it in the PS3 means that it is striving toward mainstream launch for PS4.

But all I know if they release Killzone 3 in 3D with nunchuck and wand, I'm buying a 3D set and not turning the thing off ever.

But spearheading the distribution into the living room is cutting edge and innovative.

WE had 8 track cartidges and cassete tapes so we had portable music, but the ipod was still innovative. We had surround sound in cinema but home theater surround sound was still innovative. We had hybrid cars long before the prius which pushed it mainstream, we had a lot of things that exist, just because something exists it doesnt mean you cant be on the cutting edge and push things into different avenues and it takes away the cutting edge or innovation.

What's funny is many of the same people who think "dis 3D iz fail" are the same people who shit in their pant's whenever the wind whispers "Natal". Hmmm coincidence?

I dont see anyone in this thread that is a natal lover... you may want to specify...r are you jsut screaming "conspiracy" for no reason.

For a family of four you'll be spending close to $800 just for the glasses, on top of the few thousand for the TV, lol, and who in their mind wants to sit with friends or family and watch TV or movies with big 3D glasses on their face, lol

The whole idea screams epic fail...I'm just glad I don't own Sony stock
