Forums - Sony - Sony NOT Learning from PS3 Mistakes - 3D TV Plan Will Fail

Ive said this before...and ill do it again. I have a 3D ready TV...67 inch 3D Tv. And I have the Nvidia Vision glasses and have played countless games in 3D on my PC.

There is no way that Sony will try and depend on this tech. Its not as good as people think... Only hopeless fanboys who have never tried 3D gaming are saying this is Sonys future.

If sony makes this available for some ps3 games (4-5 games tops will be able to do this on the PS3)...cool for them and PS3 gamers that have never tried 3D gaming, but there is nothing new in this and this tech has been around for a long time. Sony pushing this would be like nintendo pushing cartriges again.

There's a reason people have tried to forget about the VB...

Former something....

So they're saying 3D tv's are going to be totally awesome in everyway? I was hoping to not have to get one for a long time... now I may have to.

looks intersting, but I would preffer it for next gen

I could imagine some trippy japanese games coming with 3D....

I think Virtual Boy had a lot of more serious problems than the 3D display.  It wasn't that impressive and it could be an eye-strainer, but there were loads of other serious problems like neck strain from cramming your head into the visor, lack of games and the monochrome display.

I would agree that Virtual Boy proved that 3D displays are not that compelling to consumers.  But there are better reasons to dislike it.

Not even close. Cartridges are virtually obsolete. This is entering the living room not just for PC gaming. Not a very accurate analogy at all. This isnt sony taking a step back like the bolded would be its just a step forward.

I dont see how this will ever take off no one will want to wear glasses to watch things and it wont make a big impact i dont think, but it is funny how this is posted after a recent argument about Sony not being on the "cutting edge" and some people in this thread arguing sony isnt cutting edge and doesnt take risks, only copies.

Of course it will fail, first most people are happy with their non-3D HDTV's at the moment, secondly you need 3D glasses, which are stupid for when you're in the house, not to mention those glasses are like $200 each

They need to focus on making 3D tv's which don't require glasses, and wait for a few years until people are ready to replace their current HDTV's, then it might take off

Huh??!!

My 3-D glasses were free when I watched My Bloody Valentine in 3-D at the movie theatre.

Not sure why anyone would pay $200 for 3-D glasses.

Where are you getting this information??

In the short term you'll still need to wear special 3D glasses, which aren't expected to come bundled with the televisions and could run up to $200 each.

Well actually cardriges went away becuase it was too expensive with CDs being a cheaper option. However cartriges which are a form of solid state memory are not obsolete. Far from it. They are superior to optical media in every way.

Same thing happened with 3D gaming. The exact same technology was here with the sega master system and nes but it wasn't financially worth it at the time. And once LCDs were introduced they couldn't even do this hence it was not een an option. Only as of 2005 did LCds start coming out which were capable of having refresh rate of 120hz. Now all of a sudden since LCD TVs can do it is this technology being touted as the future of gaming. Your standard def CRT TV can do 3D sony is showing off with the shutter glasses no problem BTW...
